Corning Prepares its Own Sapphire “Project Phire”, Solution to AppleWatch?
The new Corning glass is almost as scratch resistant as is the sapphire. The draft Apple with sapphire ended up being a complete disaster, causing the collapse of their socio GTAT and generated a multimillion-dollar debt that the latter is still pending with the Cupertino Company. However, it seems that the solution to the problems of Apple could come out of that provider screens outset, Corning. Want to know what is new in what they are working?
The company has confirmed they are preparing a new type of glass that will be as resistant to scratches and scrapes as is the sapphire. However, as a point in its favor, it will have a greater resistance to falls precious material, thus representing an advantage for use against the sapphire, which remains particularly sensitive to shocks.
Currently, this crystal is being developed under the “Project Phire” project, which is expected to be beginning using this new generation of ultra-resistant end of this year crystals. Meanwhile, Corning Gorilla Glass has already submitted four; the fourth generation of his glass is expected to be present in many of the smartphones that occur this year.
For now, the company has not yet made any demonstration that crystal as resistant as sapphire, so presumably that is still at an early stage of development. However, if finally gets Corning fulfill its purpose, it could mean the solution to the relentless pursuit of Apple in a display that can be much more resistant to scratches undesirable.
The latest rumors suggest that Foxconn could be responsible for the production of sapphire crystal Apple. For now, know if Apple will continue with plans to implement the sapphire crystal on the smartphone or, on the contrary, they will opt for another solution like Corning. Meanwhile, Arizona plant would initially be aimed at the production of the precious material will be converted into the largest green data center Apple nationwide. On the other hand, the latest rumors also noted that Foxconn and Apple could build a new mega-factory in China to produce sapphire crystal, although obviously it will not be something that we will see in the new line of smartphone the company this year.
Seekingalpha.com reported: Meanwhile, Apple Watch and other smartwatches have adopted sapphire cover glass, and sapphire wafer/materials provider Rubicon (NASDAQ:RBCN) recently announced it is working on “scratch-resistant sapphire-coated faceplates for smartphone and larger devices,” as part of a broader effort to expand into new markets. Concerns about the material’s cost and brittleness remain.
