Moonraker a new code name for a product that has always been surrounded by many rumors. The Nokia smartwatch existed but was never released from the prototype phase. Evan Blass (also known asEVleaks), managed to find a blog (run by Pei-Chi Hsieh, a qualified design of Microsoft) in which they are published images depicting the device.

According to sources inside Microsoft, Moonraker was concept by Nokia to be launched together with the Lumia 930, it boasted the same pair of colors that so distinguishes the Lumia series and had an interface that resembles Windows Phone, although there is no information on software which allow the device to work.

The Verge adds to the cauldron of news, that that Moonraker was shown behind closed doors at the last Mobile World Congress to some customers and investors but after the completion of the acquisition by Microsoft, Moonraker was shelved in favor of Microsoft Band. The latter come with more sensors, autonomy and devoted for new fitness platform of Microsoft.

And now it is known that late in the year, Microsoft will present the second version of the Band. It is possible that a smartwatch can accompany. We are always talking about the queen of Microsoft handbrakes!

Update: more details emerge on Moonraker, thanks to an interesting speech of Tom Warren from The Verge. The source defines more than just Concept. The models portrayed in the pictures. It would, on the contrary, the preparatory material for marketing purposes.

Simple concept, apparently, but corresponding to a real product – model number LS-50 – the development of which has increased from Nokia to Microsoft – according to Blass. Unfortunately, at present, the status of the project is unknown, it is therefore impossible to know if it is still carried out or if it was simply stored.

The Redmond has to credit a single wearable, the Microsoft Band, which is not technically one smartwatch, but a smartband. Although in the past there have been rumors about the creation of a real smartwatch – powered by sightings of patents which suggested the possible launch  – concrete there is only one product that never reached our market.

As happened with other projects and services designed and managed initially by Nokia and transferred to Microsoft after the acquisition, it is not possible to make predictions on the effective date. What do you think of this device? Who would buy if launched along with the Band?
