Moonraker was the name of the smart watch that Nokia in working. It was before the company was bought by Microsoft. The world Smartwatch takes some idle months, probably waiting for the Apple. Apple Watch finally be available in the Apple Store and demand begins to grow. However, today we have known something really curious, and apparently Nokia also was working on its own SmartWatch few years ago.

The device was called Moonraker, as explained by sources close to the project, a prototype was taught privately to some attendees of MWC 2014. By then the SmartWatch was close to reaching the market because as you can see in images, its design and operating system were almost ready. In fact, Nokia had intended to present together with the Lumia 930, but these plans were canceled when Microsoft acquired the Nokia mobile division.

Moonraker images have appeared a few hours ago in a blog on Tumblr belonging to Pei-Chi Hsieh, a Microsoft designer. It given the appearance of enduring images, it appears that these would be used for promotional purposes beyond being mere concepts that might have been the Nokia Smartwatch.

Moonraker design is not exactly original. It can greatly remind other watches market like Sony SmartWatch 3, and also has certain identifying shape of the Samsung Gear. In line with the Lumia range, the Smartwatch seemed to have colorful combinations of straps, rather than adhering to the device body, seem to integrate as with the Sony SmartWatch.

Nokia created its own operating system for Smartwatch using the famous Metro interface.

However, what is really interesting is to observe the operating system. Nokia created a completely new OS for Moonraker. It is clearly inspired by the Metro interface. It can be found in the line of smartphones of the company. As shown in the conceptual images, the system would be based on vertical offsets to access different functions such as messages, calls, mail, remote camera control, among others.

As we read in The Verge, the reasons that have led Microsoft to cancel the Moonraker project is to prioritize the Microsoft Band, the first wearable company to hit the market in autumn last year. Microsoft believed that the Band would be much more functional thanks to the large number of sensors incorporated, although even then he fully understood the decision when you consider that two categories are clearly differentiated product that does not compete.

It is not expected that the Moonraker Nokia or the later generations will reach the market because right now Microsoft is working on the second generation of its Band and at the moment is the only one open to the company in the market against the wearables.

What do you think the Moonraker? Do you think you should have come to market?
