There is a huge gap in China for premium look and affordable cost Smartwatch, now. Exactly, the same philosophy that has propeled brands such as Huawei, Lenovo and Xiaomi for applying the market for smart watches. Mobvoi, the Chinese startup seems to have realized this and they are preparing to occupy this very interesting market that big empty, the Ticwatch.
Currently, the smartwatch is being financed through a crowdfunding platform on the site right now, JD.com and have already managed to raise $ 1.3 million to launch the project Ticwatch, a device that intend to sell $ 160. Mobvoi was founded in 2012 and its first product was the Chumen Wenwen, a search and speech recognition used in the popular instant messaging service WeChat or mismamente in the Google Glass.
In its latest round of funding, Mobvoi has managed to raise 10 million dollars, so definitely we are not facing a small startup. But back to Ticwatch, a smart watch that is being developed in collaboration with The Frog studio based in Shanghai. Here are some of their technical specifications:
- 5-inch screen with 320 x 320 pixels resolution and Gorilla Glass glass 3
- ARM Cortex A7
- 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage
- Battery 300 mAh
- Wireless charging
- Certified IP67 water and dust resistant
- Heart rate sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, speaker and microphone

The Ticwatch has a capacitive strip on one side to interact with the device
As can be seen in the images, the design of Ticwatch is spherical, clean and elegant, in line with what the market lately it seems request of the Smartwatch. The more it looks like an ordinary watch, the goal is to carry in any context. Its case is made of polished stainless steel, with very thin frames that leave room for a complete and touch area.
However, the star feature is the capacitive Ticwatch strip incorporating one of the sides of the box. The developers have explained that users do not like too touch the screen of your SmartWatch, then ends up getting dirty and filled with traces, spoiling the design of the clock. Thus, like the Apple Digital Crown Watch it were, or the rumored next Smartwatch rotating bezel Samsung Mobvoi guys have devised a curious solution.
This capacitive strip allows basic interactions such as zoom, scroll or other gestures which until now could only make playing the clock display. However, they admit that they have not yet reached the point where all Ticwatch interface is adapted to the capacitive strip, while still working on it.
