Offline maps service is currently being sought. After some time HERE Maps from Microsoft offers offline feature, a lot of positive responses arrived from users who have been using the service either in Android or Windows Phone platform. This is not too surprising because by using Offline Maps you can know where you are right now, looking for the shortest route , without the need for data signal or WiFi connection.
Now Google has also provided offline maps service. So, it is better for you to immediately open Google maps to be able to use the useful and practical features available in offline maps. But do not worry, here we ‘ll tell you on how to use the Google Maps offline.
- First of all certainly you have to open the Google Maps app and you can continue to search any location you want.
- Once you find the location you’re looking for, then you can save that location with three alternative ways : You can type ” OK Maps” in the search bar , or via microphone icon by saying “OK Maps” , or by tapping the search bar and scrolling down to the bottom and tap the ” Save a new offline map ” menu.
- Then as a result you will be asked on whether you want to “save this map” or not. You can Pan and zoom the map to see all the necessary information you need like street and building names.
- If you have saved the map, then you can open the map by tapping the so called “Hamburger” menu icon located at the top left of the Google Maps, continued with “Your Places” menu.
- You should be able to view all your saved maps below the “Saved Places” at the bottom of your screen. Then choose the map you like to open it offline.
Don’t be worry about the size of the map eating your phone storage, since it only needs small amount of space. The New York city map itself for example, only sized at 13 Mb. To save the data package on your phone, it is better to download the maps via Wi-Fi.
However, by using the Google maps offline, you can save only small areas. If the area is too big then you will received a message saying that the map cannot be saved. The solution is to slash the area into smaller areas. In addition, you also cannot search places within the offline map, as well as there is no offline navigation. And unfortunately the maps you have downloaded will not last forever, meaning that after 30 days since you have downloaded at the first time, the maps will be deleted automatically.
