FES Watch, A Unique E-Ink Screen Smartwatch from Sony

Minimalist design has a way to appear attractive, no exception with smartwatch. HP and Movado for example, the two companies are working together to launch the analog smartwatch with Android Wear-based. Sony also had a watch that is not less interesting.

Smartwatch is identical to the similar shape in general and mostly uses the same material. But what if the smart watches have a unique design with a unique material as well?

FES Watch is smartwatch with similar models as other smartwatch. The difference with others smartwatch is the use of the E-paper material. E-paper is a material developed by Sony from a year ago. FES Watch is the work of a startup company through fundraising site Makuake. Afterward, FES Watch also extends the range through crowdfunding site owned by Sony, First Flight. And finally this month the device will be released on a limited basis in stores in Japan.

FES Watch uses a system called electronic e-ink screen. These watches require less battery power than LCD watches. With electronic ink system, this watches can change the color and appearance when a button on the right side pressed. One unit of this watches can change the color or style of bracelet to 24 kinds. FES Wach has a base color of black and white. In addition, any appearance also has different motives as well. There are displays of numbers, there are not, even some that plain.

Actually, if you look on the features and functions, this watch is not a smartwatch, in general, but a watch with cutting-edge materials. By using the power of a coin-shaped battery, FES Watch is able to survive for two months. This clock has 7 mm and a diameter of 40 mm.

Begin this Saturday, FES Watch will be sold at the MoMA Design Store in Omotesando. While the boutique department store, Isetan in Shinjuku will start selling FES Watch on Dec. 1. Two locations have been selected according to FES Watch market that carries the unique design. Fashion Entertainments which became a subsidiary of Sony chose the approach of design and style for this first product release.

FES Watch was just an ordinary wristwatch, not smartwatch with smart features that today’s trend. But the designs offered quite interesting, especially with the use of e-paper. For now Sony still has not revealed plans to release FES Watch in the global market. But besides sold in physical stores, these watches can also be ordered online through the website MoMa at a price of ¥ 29.700.
