Share The Meal – Build A World without Hunger, Make this World A Better Place!

Have you ever thought just with an app on your smartphone can help fight the hunger in the world?

In the year 2015 the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) launched an app called “Share The Meal”. This application aims to reduce hunger in the world through the help of all of you. This app is available free for both Android and iOS platforms.

This app lets you choose food for all the children in the world with just $ 0.50. With this you have participated in providing ‘essential nutrients’ to children around the world. The WFP’s food program is based on the ground situation. For example the ‘fortified biscuits’, ‘porridge, maize with beans or peas’ etc.

$ 0.50? Maybe for you that amount is very little. In other parts of the world that amount can be very valuable. If for us it’s only a small part of pocket money but for them that amount can save lives.

With $ 0.50, you can feed one child without eating for a full day in many countries, according to data collected by the United Nations’s World Food Program (WFP).

TOGETHER WE CAN END HUNGER!
ShareTheMeal is the charity app by the World Food Programme that allows you to feed a child in need with one tap on your phone. Every year, hunger kills more people than malaria, HIV and tuberculosis combined. But it costs only $0.50 to feed a child for one day. There are 20 times as many smartphone users as hungry children. If every one of us gives just a little, we can make this world a better place!

In addition, we quote the e-mail interview from Advisor Business Innovation at United Nations World Food Program and Share the Meal founder, Sebastian Stricker.

How and when you have the ideas to overcome hunger using smartphone app ?

While working for the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) I believe that a smartphone app is a perfect opportunity to involve more people around the world in this project. The potential is huge because the smartphone users exceed the number of children who starve, 20 to 1.

Are there plans for funding in other areas such as health and education?

STM is the first WFP awareness-raising application. This app is a stub for everyone to join in an effort to create a dream world without starvation. This is our goal.

Can you be more specific about ‘transparency’ using the funds? I’m sure most app users will be interested and sure to give more donations if they know where and how their money is used.

Communities can keep up with the in-app progress and see how much food has been shared. We can not match individual donation to individual children, but we keep trying to do better. We ensure this does not affect our operations.

What is the period of time you have projected to overcome this hunger problem?

With many people joining this community, we believe that 0 percent of hunger can be achieved in our lifetime.
