Most android apps are relying on Google Android, and according to a new report by The Information. Facebook is currently developing its own operating system. The development of the OS is currently being led by Mark Lucovsky that is famous for its work on the Windows NT operating system.
Facebook OS to reduce dependency on Android!
There is however a limited amount of information on the new Facebook OS. But we can expect that the OS will be using both Facebook’s Oculus and Portal devices that currently run on a modified version of android. Ficus Patrik, one of Facebook’s AR and VR Heads stated that “it’s possible” that facebook future hardware won’t need to rely on google software, and it could significantly reduce the control google has over facebook’s hardware.
Facebook seems to really want to be independent, and since most of its user is actually from the mobile device which is iOS Apple, and Android Google, they will need to one-up their game.
Facebook’s head of hardware, Andrew Bosworth said in one of the interviews is that they really want to make sure the next-gen has a space for them, and since they don’t trust the marketplace or competitors to ensure that is the case, so they are gonna do it themselves.
