Xiaomi announced they are separating Poco as an independent brand. Now, Poco is no longer a part of Xiaomi’s sub-brand. This step follows the company’s policy last year to split the Redmi brand into an independent brand.
The Pocophone series from Xiaomi is a quite successful smartphone variant. With a mix of qualified specifications and also affordable prices, this smartphone line managed to steal the show.
Redmi is intended mobile phones at affordable prices. While the Mi series will be aimed at high-end phones. Poco itself is currently intended specifically to target the Indian market, as conveyed by Managing Director of Xiaomi India, Manu Kumar Jain.
“Poco F1 is very popular and remains in the upper ranks. We think this is the right time to release the Poco brand to become an independent brand,” explained Manu as quoted by TechCrunch.
“Poco, which started from the Xiaomi sub-brand, has grown with its own identity. Poco F1 is a popular cellphone. We feel it’s the right time to let Poco operate on its own,” he wrote.
Nevertheless, not much detailed information revealed by Janu. Therefore, it is interesting to wait for Poco’s steps in the future after becoming an independent brand.
Previously, Head of Pocophone Global Alvin Tse did say there would be new information about Poco in 2020. There is a possibility that the information is also related to Poco’s plans for this year.
