Instagram will be removing the IGTV shortcut button on its home screen. First launched in mid-2018, IGTV is one of the feature that is originally meant to rival the likes of YouTube and other app, where people will be able to use IGTV to post a longer video to attract other. However, it is not as successful as the original Instagram feature which is to post and like other photos and videos.
Instagram decided to remove the button on their home screen after discovering that few people were tapping it. This is not surprising since most of Instagram users will be able to find the feature in Explore, the creator profile, and their feed. On one Interview, an Instagram Spokesperson told that “Very few are clicking into the IGTV icon in the top right corner of the home screen in the Instagram app.
The creator also reportedly struggled to attract creators and users to IGTV since the release. The service doesn’t offer the same revenue and opportunities from ads like other platforms, and creators said that brands haven’t really offered the same sponsored content opportunities for IGTV content like in their main Instagram posts!
