Currently, a new firmware update for the MagSafe Battery Pack has been published, which will allow it to charge the iPhone a little faster. When connected to a 20-watt charger, the MagSafe Pack is capable of transferring up to 15-watts of power to an iPhone.
Although the MagSafe Battery Pack will no longer be able to charge at the maximum rate of 7.5W when it is not connected to a power source, an Apple firmware update has made this possible. Previously, it could only charge up to 5W when used as a portable charger.
Updated Firmware Update for MagSafe for Faster Charging!
Apple has updated its support website to include instructions on how to upgrade your MagSafe Battery Pack, which you can find here. When it comes to updating the Apple MagSafe Battery Pack Firmware, you can utilize your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
The MagSafe Battery Pack will immediately update when it is connected to your smartphone if you are updating with an iPhone – albeit it may take up to a week for the update to complete. You may connect the MagSafe Battery Pack to an iPad or a Mac and the update should take no more than 5 minutes, according to Apple.
To verify the latest update has been installed (version 2.7), you just need to open the settings on your iPhone via Settings > General > About > MagSafe Battery Pack.
