MediaTek has been on a roll this month, announcing its third chipset, the Dimensity 9200+, which has already beaten Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in preliminary Geekbench 6 tests. The Dimensity 9200+ is a boosted version of the Dimensity 9200 chipset released last year, and it comes with higher CPU clocks, a 17% GPU boost, and other upgrades.

Despite being fabbed on TSMC’s N4P node (4nm, second gen), the new Dimensity 9200+ can run its CPU and GPU at higher clock speeds, including all three CPU clusters, which promises a 10% uplift over the original version of the chip. MediaTek has kept the specifics of the ARM Immortalis G715 GPU under wraps, but they say that users can expect an average of 17% higher performance. The display adapter also supports FHD+ @ 240Hz, QHD+ at 144Hz, and dual 2.5K displays at 60Hz.

The Dimensity 9200+ chipset also features LPDDR5X RAM, sub-6GHz/mmWave 5G (7.9Gbps), Wi-Fi 7 (6.5Gbps), Bluetooth 5.3, and a 320MP, 18-bit ISP camera. It also allows for 8K video recording at 30fps and 4K video recording at 60fps.

However, higher performance is not the only goal for this chip, as it can also do the same amount of work with less power. MediaTek provides the following examples of what users can expect in terms of lower power usage: 10-21% savings in popular games, 35% savings in messaging apps, and 36% savings in Wi-Fi hotspot mode.

Overall, the Dimensity 9200+ chipset is a powerful upgrade that offers both higher performance and lower power usage. While phone makers are still keeping things under wraps, we can expect the first phones with the Dimensity 9200+ to be released soon. It will be exciting to see how this new chipset performs in real-world usage and how it stacks up against the competition.
