The smartphone industry is no stranger to fierce competition, especially in the mid-range segment. Today, we catch a glimpse of Samsung’s upcoming device Samsung Galaxy M44, which is set to join the already crowded mid-range space. The intriguing twist is that this particular smartphone has been spotted on Geekbench’s online results database, undergoing benchmark tests.

While benchmarking prototypes is a standard practice, what caught our attention is the chipset powering this mysterious device. Samsung seems to have opted for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 SoC, a surprising decision considering the company’s usual preference for its own Exynos chips. What’s even more astonishing is that the Snapdragon 888 was released almost three years ago, back in late 2020 and early 2021.

Could this be a stroke of genius on Samsung’s part, or is there a specific reason behind this unexpected choice? Perhaps Qualcomm had surplus Snapdragon 888 chips lying unused, and Samsung seized the opportunity for a cost-effective deal.

The smartphone, rumored to be called the Samsung Galaxy M44 with the model number SM-M446K, has already made its presence felt with a benchmarked version sporting 6GB of RAM. However, it’s worth noting that there might be more variations available upon release.

Running on Android 13 during benchmark tests, the Galaxy M44 is set to launch with the same operating system unless any unforeseen delays push its debut to the following year. Excitingly, the device is expected to hit the Indian market, catering to the tech-savvy consumers in the region.
