If you’re a CS:GO enthusiast and were eagerly waiting for Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) to hit macOS, we’ve got some unfortunate updates. Valve recently declared that CS 2 won’t be available on macOS. Meaning that if you want to play the game, and if you are a mac user, you might want to use Windows or Linux.  If you are asking why, here are the reason made by Valve!

Why macOS Won’t Support Counter-Strike 2

CS2 is built on the Vulkan graphics API, which isn’t naturally supported by macOS. To make it work, Valve would need to build a special Vulkan system for macOS, a task that comes with significant challenges and efforts.

Valve’s analysis revealed that the macOS player base for CS:GO accounts for less than 1% of the total players. This statistic implies that the investment required to develop a macOS version of CS2 isn’t justified by the market size.

Besides the major issues mentioned, Valve would encounter other hurdles in the development process. Supporting various macOS versions and coordinating with Apple to ensure compatibility with their hardware and software pose additional challenges.

Valve acknowledges its commitment to macOS gamers but emphasized that unless the macOS player base significantly increases, a macOS version of CS2 won’t be on the cards.

How to Play the CS 2 in macOS

While some third-party tools like Bootcamp and Parallels exist to enable Windows game play on macOS, they can be complicated to use and might affect gaming performance negatively.

For now, CS2’s macOS absence remains a disappointing reality for those who were hoping to dive into the sequel on their favorite operating system. While it’s a setback, the vibrant CS:GO community continues to thrive on other platforms, keeping the spirit of the game alive.
