Combining monster collecting with the survival game mode, Palworld has become a hit on the Steam platform. The surge in players prompted Epic Games to work on expanding its servers to meet the demand. Some fans of Freak’s “Pokemon” game have labeled Palworld as a rip-off. However, modders have successfully created mods to replace Palworld characters with Pokemon characters.
Unfortunately, after a video clip featuring the Pokemon mod in Palworld went viral, moderators in the Palworld Modding Discord had to take action. Initially discovered by GamesRadar+, there seemed to be concerns about potential legal repercussions from Nintendo.
The moderators conveyed their decision in a post on the Announcement board on Palworld Modding Discord. The primary concern was the potential danger it posed to this newly emerging community.
“While memes and such are funny, the mod itself poses a huge risk to the community, and we have to be careful so that Nintendo’s lawyers don’t sue all of us with legal action,” the post stated. Some even stated that the mods might ripped the asset and is illegal in Nintendo eyes.
These concerns are understandable given the number of fan projects related to Pokemon that have been targeted and taken down by Nintendo. Not only that, there are also cases where Discord conversation being used as an evidence in the court.
As such, To avoid problems, Palworld Modding Discord no longer allows links or related files to be shared on their server.
