Recently, Nintendo finally shut down online services for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, rendering some games irrelevant or losing their online multiplayer features. Games like the original Splatoon, Mario Maker, Mario Kart, and others are now difficult to play or even impacted by the closure. However, there is a glimmer of hope for those who still want to engage in these games.

Since the shutdown, a fan project known as Pretendo has emerged, aiming to revive the Nintendo online network for Wii U and 3DS. The team behind Pretendo has created dedicated servers for various Nintendo titles with online modes, all to preserve the lost online functionality.

Although Pretendo is still in development, many players have turned to this service to continue playing 3DS and Wii U games online. While most games are not fully operational yet, this hasn’t stopped people from trying to play Splatoon and Mario Kart. However, to connect to the Pretendo Network, you’ll need to jailbreak your device, unless you’re using a Wii U and make DNS changes according to Pretendo’s latest instructions.
