X is Going to Remove Liked Tabs Due to Drama

Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is set to remove the ‘Likes’ tab from user profiles. This change means that others won’t be able to see what content a user has liked. The first reports of this change came from MacRumors, which spotted a sign in the X app for iOS. Shortly after, X’s Chief Technical Officer, Haofei Wang, confirmed the reports.

“Publicly visible likes trigger inappropriate behaviour. Many people feel hesitant to like potentially ‘edgy’ content for fear of trolling or to maintain their public image,” Wang said in his post on X, basically saying it makes too many Drama.

This change has raised many questions among X users about the impact of this policy on who can see their likes. In a separate post, X’s Senior Software Engineer, Enrique Barragan, provided additional clarification. Barragan stated that users will still be able to see who has liked their posts, and the number of likes and replies on posts will still be visible.

However, users won’t be able to see who has liked other users’ posts, and the Likes tab, which shows a list of content liked by the user, will be removed. Previously, X Premium subscribers already had the option to hide the Likes tab on their profiles, but this change appears to be applied to all users, thus removing the Likes tab entirely. It is not yet known when this new policy will be rolled out, but in the meantime, X users can privately save content they like using the Bookmark feature.
