How to Optimize Dungeonborne for Better Performance

Dungeonborne and Dark and Darker might have a lot in common, but Dungeonborne stands out with its superior graphics. However, these enhanced visuals can impact performance. Despite improvements since earlier playtests, players still report frequent frame drops and stuttering. To help smooth out your gameplay experience, we’ve put together some optimal settings for Dungeonborne.

Best Graphics Settings for Dungeonborne

When setting up Dungeonborne, it’s crucial to find a balance between visual quality and performance. Here’s how to tweak the settings for the best results:

Display Settings:

  • Display Mode: Fullscreen
  • Resolution: Native
  • Vertical Sync: Off
  • Camera Sway While Moving: Off (This can help prevent motion sickness for some players).
  • Frame Rate Limit: Set it to your monitor’s maximum refresh rate (Currently, there’s no option to remove the cap).
  • Field of View: 85-95 (Higher settings can decrease FPS as the game has to render more of the environment).

Graphics Settings:

  • Quality Preset: Custom (We’ll adjust settings individually for optimal balance).
  • 3D Resolution: 100% (Lowering this will blur the image).
  • Global Illumination: Medium (This is one of the more demanding settings).
  • Shadows: Medium (Good balance of performance and visual quality).
  • Anti-Aliasing: High (Minimal difference between High and Very High).
  • View Distance: Medium
  • Textures: High (Switch to Very High if you have a GPU with 8GB+ VRAM).
  • Effects: High (Minimal performance impact unless in specific scenarios like magic effects).
  • Reflections: Medium (Few reflective surfaces in the game).
  • Post-Processing: Very High (Improves visuals with little performance cost).
  • Supersampling Mode: DLSS Quality or FSR Balanced
  • Sharpness: Adjust to your preference (Below 50% is recommended to avoid overly sharp textures).
  • Advanced Models and Shadow Rendering: Off (Turning this on can significantly reduce performance).

These settings should give you a noticeable FPS boost. On our test PC with an Intel i7-11800H CPU, Nvidia RTX 3070 GPU, and 32GB RAM, we achieved an average of 100 FPS with a minimum of 75 FPS using these optimized settings.

Performance Issues and Recommendations

Despite these settings, Dungeonborne still has some performance challenges.

1. Inconsistent Performance: FPS can vary significantly, dropping from around 110 to the 70s even with consistent settings and areas.

2. Settings Reset: Sometimes, your graphics settings might reset when launching the game. It’s a good idea to check your settings each time before you start playing to ensure they match the recommended configuration.

With these tips, you should be able to enjoy a smoother experience in Dungeonborne, making the most of its stunning visuals without too many performance hiccups.
