Pastry Cookie, a fan favorite in Cookie Run: Kingdom (CRK), recently received a Magic Candy upgrade. Magic Candy can significantly change how a cookie performs in battle, and this new addition had many wondering: Is Pastry Cookie now overpowered (OP)? Let’s break down her new abilities, test her potential, and see if she’s worth building in both PvE and PvP.

CRK Cookie Run Pastry Magic Candy Guide

Pastry Cookie’s Magic Candy upgrade centers around her Fervent Prayer skill, which enhances her Lightbringer Bolt ability.

  • Skill Enhancement: After using her skill, Pastry’s Lightbringer Bolt gains additional ricochets and an increased firing range, allowing her to target more enemies.
  • Wind Element Damage: Pastry inflicts 35.5% extra damage on enemies vulnerable to wind-type damage, making her more effective against specific opponents.
  • At Max Level (+30):
    • Lightbringer Bolt Ricochet hits increase significantly.
    • Additional critical damage and attack boosts during battle.

At max upgrade levels, Pastry’s ricochet attacks hit up to 8 different targets, giving her great wave-clear potential. But does this make her OP? Let’s put it to the test.

Testing Pastry’s Magic Candy in Different Modes

PvE Performance (Cookie Alliance, Story Mode)

Pastry Cookie shines in PvE content, especially in wave-clear scenarios. Her improved area-of-effect damage makes her an excellent choice for modes like Cookie Alliance and the story campaign, where multiple enemies appear in waves. Once her ricochets kick in, she can clear entire groups of enemies efficiently. This makes her an excellent addition to your PvE lineup, especially for clearing mid-tier stages or supporting other high-damage dealers like Wind Archer.

In boss battles, however, Pastry’s performance falls short. Her damage against single targets is less impressive, and she struggles to compete with cookies like Twizzly Gummy or Brûlée. She’s better suited for clearing minions than tackling high-health bosses.

PvP Performance (Arena)

Pastry’s Magic Candy has a more complicated role in the Arena. While her attack speed and ricochet damage ramp up quickly, she lacks burst damage and crowd control resistance, two critical components for competitive PvP. Without burst damage, her attacks often get healed by support cookies like Cream Ferret, reducing her impact. Additionally, her vulnerability to stuns, freezes, and sleep effects make her unreliable in high-level Arena matches, where quick and powerful strikes are essential.

While she can deal decent damage when left uninterrupted, many other cookies, like Dark Cacao and Frost Queen, outshine her due to their superior burst and AoE abilities.

Is Pastry Cookie Now OP?

While Pastry Cookie’s Magic Candy does improve her overall performance, it doesn’t push her into OP territory. Here’s why:

  • Strengths:
    • Great wave-clear potential in PvE content.
    • Can shine in Cookie Alliance and story stages with large groups of enemies.
    • Decent in lower-tier Arena matches where interruptions are less frequent.
  • Weaknesses:
    • Lacks burst damage, making her ineffective in high-level PvP.
    • No resistance to crowd control, which is crucial in the current meta.
    • Struggles in boss battles, as her damage output against single targets remains subpar.

Should You Build Pastry’s Magic Candy?

If you’re focused on PvE content, Pastry’s Magic Candy is worth investing in. She excels at clearing waves, making her useful for stages with multiple enemies. However, if you’re more focused on PvP or high-level boss battles, Pastry may not offer the performance boost you’re hoping for. In those areas, cookies like Twizzly Gummy or Wind Archer remain better options.

Pastry’s Magic Candy gives her a solid boost, but it doesn’t make her a must-build cookie for every player. For PvE enthusiasts, she’s a fantastic wave-clearer, but in PvP and boss content, she falls short. Ultimately, Pastry sits comfortably in the A-tier for PvE but isn’t strong enough to compete with top-tier PvP or boss-slaying cookies.
