TwitchCon 2024 has left attendees buzzing with mixed feelings, particularly surrounding issues of security and disruptive behavior among some attendees. Peter, a seasoned attendee who has participated in seven TwitchCon events, recently shared his thoughts on the matter, rating this year’s convention a solid 8 out of 10. However, it’s clear that the festival was not without its controversies.
Peter highlighted significant security concerns that impacted the overall experience for many streamers. He noted, “There were a lot of streamers who were being disruptive, and they were live streaming and being weird and loud.”
This behavior was not isolated, with incidents occurring both inside and outside the convention venue. Streamers associated with the Kick platform were particularly mentioned, with reports of harassment and aggression directed towards others throughout the weekend.
Despite the chaos, Peter emphasized that the TwitchCon security team was responsive when incidents arose. He stated, “Every time I heard about any kind of issue cropping up in the venue, security was called, and people were typically escorted out pretty quickly.” This shows that while disruptions were frequent, the security measures in place were effective in handling the situations as they developed.
One alarming encounter involved a confrontation outside the venue, where a Kick streamer, accompanied by a bodyguard, was reportedly involved in a near altercation with a fan. Peter and others quickly decided to vacate the area, highlighting the tense atmosphere that some attendees faced during the event.
Peter reflected on the changing nature of TwitchCon, saying, “It wasn’t that common of an occurrence in previous years, but this year I felt like it was very common.” This observation raises concerns about the evolving culture surrounding the convention and the motivations of certain attendees, especially those who might seek to gain attention through disruptive actions.
