Dead Sails Fuel Tier List, Best One to Pick!

In Dead Sails, keeping your train moving is key. If you run out of fuel, you’re stuck—and that’s the last thing you want when night falls. This guide breaks down all the fuel types you can use, which ones are the most efficient, and how to keep your train’s firebox burning non-stop.

Best Fuel to Use in Dead Sails

To make sure you don’t get stranded, you need to know which items give you the most distance. Pretty much anything that burns—even some odd stuff—can be tossed into the firebox to power your train.

You’ll find fuel scattered in buildings, out in the open, or even from more unusual places like corpses. Not all fuel is the same, though. Some items barely move the train, while others carry you for kilometers.

Top Pick: Coal

  • Coal: This is your most reliable and efficient fuel. One piece gives you around 4 km of travel. You’ll often find coal in buildings, especially in mines. You can also buy it at the General Store inside forts. If you see coal, always grab it.

  • Unicorn: Super rare, but easily the best fuel in the game. If you manage to find one, it powers your train for a whopping 15.8 km. Good luck finding it, though.

Other Fuel Options and How Far They Get You

If you don’t have coal, you’ll have to use whatever’s around. Here’s a breakdown of common (and strange) fuel items and their range:

  • Werewolf Corpse: 2.5 km

  • Barrel: 2 km

  • Chair: 1.7 km

  • Rope: 1.5 km

  • Wood Painting: 1.3 km

  • Book: 1 km

  • Wheel: 1 km

  • Zombie Corpse: 700 m

  • Wolf Corpse: 600 m

  • Horse Corpse: 500 m

  • Vampire Corpse: 500 m

  • Newspaper: 120 m

Coal is still the best, but if you’re low on supplies, even furniture and corpses can keep you moving. As long as an item shows the Fuel label when you hover over it, it can be used in the firebox.

How to Use the Firebox in Dead Sails

Fueling the train is simple once you know how:

  1. Find the Firebox: It’s the furnace-looking thing next to the train’s control panel.

  2. Pick Up a Fuel Item: This can be anything from coal to a zombie corpse.

  3. Feed the Firebox: Walk up to it and drag the item inside.

  4. Check the Gauge: There’s a fuel meter above the firebox that shows how full it is. The more you add, the higher it goes. Moving the train uses fuel and lowers the gauge, so keep an eye on it.

Never let your train run out of fuel—especially at night. Being stranded in the dark is dangerous. Always keep backup fuel stored in your train or trailer. Grab anything that burns when you see it, because every little bit helps.
