Animal Grow a Garden Update Guide, When & What?

The long-awaited Animal Update in Grow A Garden has officially arrived, and it’s brought a fresh layer of life into the already vibrant farming experience on Roblox. Whether you’re here to get a rare pet or just curious about how it all works, this guide will break down everything you need to know about the update, how pets function, and when you can expect new features to drop.

What Is the Animal Update in Grow A Garden?

This update introduces a whole new gameplay element to Grow A Garden—pets. There are 20 different animals to collect, each bringing something unique to your garden. Just like plants, pets come in different sizes and need care to grow. They can also affect your crops in interesting ways, adding depth to your strategy and rewards.

Confirmed Pets So Far

As of the initial launch on May 3, 2025, here are the confirmed pets:

Panda – Available for free, but only for the first hour after the update drops. If you want this one, don’t wait.

  • Dog
  • Golden Lab
  • Bunny

More pets are in the game, but these are the ones we’ve seen confirmed directly. Others can likely be unlocked by hatching different colored eggs.

How to Get Pets

Pets hatch from eggs, which you can get from the new Egg Seller NPC. Here’s how the egg system works:

  • Egg Seller appears instead of the usual Quest Giver in new servers.
  • If you don’t see the Egg Seller, try hopping into a different server or create a free private server to find them.
  • Eggs refresh every 4 hours, so you’ll want to check in regularly.
  • The color of the egg determines the rarity and chances of getting rarer pets.

Pet Mechanics and Features

From developer notes and in-game behavior, we now understand how pets function in the garden:

  • Hatching: You place eggs in your garden, and over time, they hatch into pets.
  • Growth: Pets start at Age 0. You’ll need to feed them daily to keep them growing. If a pet goes hungry, it stops aging and may stop helping your garden.
  • Wandering: Pets move around your garden freely.
  • Abilities: Each pet may have a unique trait that impacts your gameplay. Examples (subject to change):
  • Bees may cause pollination mutations.
  • Birds might eat fruit and drop a seed an hour later.
  • Worms could improve soil, speeding up plant growth.
  • Synergies: Some pets will work better when paired with others. For example, one bee may pollinate while another bee turns pollinated flowers into honey.

This adds a level of strategy to which pets you choose to hatch and raise together.

When Did the Update Arrive?

The Animal Update officially launched on May 3, 2025. If you’re seeing claims that pets were unlockable earlier, those are incorrect. The Panda pet was free, but only during the first hour after the update release—so it was a limited-time claim. The Animal Update takes Grow A Garden beyond just planting and harvesting.

Now, your garden is alive with pets that can assist, influence, and even change the way you play. With 20 pets to collect and different traits to explore, there’s plenty of room for experimentation. Make sure you’re logging in regularly to get new eggs and discover powerful combinations. Whether you’re in it for the aesthetics or the farming boost, pets are a game-changer.
