Starting a new RPG like Crystal of Atlan can be exciting but also tricky. Learning the game systems and knowing where to invest your time and resources can make a huge difference in your progress. Based on firsthand experience from the China server, here are the common early mistakes I made — and how you can avoid them when the global version launches. 1. Don’t Waste Resources on the Wrong Pets

One of the first things players get is a rabbit pet. It looks cute but it’s actually quite weak and not worth investing resources in. Instead, focus on getting and upgrading the Owl Pet, which is a purchase-based pet but offers significant boosts to your DPS, especially your critical stats. Critical hits matter a lot in Crystal of Atlan’s combat, so this pet should be your top priority.

There’s also a fox-like support pet you’ll get by just playing normally. It helps with cooldown reduction and flat HP, plus healing skills. This pet is decent early on but don’t invest heavily here either. The Owl Pet remains the best long-term investment.

2. Be Careful What You Sell on the Market

Early in the game, the market prices for some items can be confusing. Some materials, like insignias, might seem cheap at first but become extremely valuable later on. Insignias work similarly to cards in games like Ragnarok, becoming important parts of your future builds. Selling these items too early for quick gold can cost you a lot down the road when you really need them.

Key takeaway: Don’t sell rare crafting or upgrade materials without understanding their future value.

3. Don’t Over-Enhance Gear Too Early

This mistake hit me hard. I enhanced gear heavily (plus 8 to 10) before even reaching level 50, where the best farming gears unlock. Later, I had to replace that gear, losing gold on transferring enhancements. Although enhancement transfer is possible, it still costs valuable gold. The advice is simple: save your enhancement materials until you reach level 50+ and start farming the higher-tier accessories and armor.

Key takeaway: Hold off on major gear enhancement until you have endgame-level equipment to upgrade.

4. Create and Level Alternative Characters Early

From day one, start creating your alternative characters (alts). Level them to around level 10 to unlock daily login rewards and free resources. However, don’t invest your resources into these alts heavily — focus on your main character for upgrades. If you’re unsure about your main class, use the alts to experiment with different playstyles. Try multiple classes and find the one you enjoy most or that suits your drop luck.

Key takeaway: Make alts early for rewards and experimentation, but don’t invest heavily in them.

5. Follow a Simple Early Game Timeline

Most early-game mistakes boil down to one problem: wasting resources too soon. When I first played on the China server, I tried to test everything and rushed systems I didn’t fully understand, which drained resources. Instead, keep your early game simple:

  • Focus on completing story quests, elite missions, and side quests.
  • Use the free gear the game gives you — it’s enough to progress initially.
  • Aim to reach the point where you unlock dungeons to start farming level 50+ accessories and level 55 armor.

Avoid touching complex systems like re-rolling stats or gear enhancement in the first few days.

Key takeaway: Just level up and quest. Let the game’s free gear and rewards carry you until dungeons unlock.

Starting Crystal of Atlan the right way means patience and smart resource management. Don’t rush to upgrade everything or test all systems immediately — instead, save your materials for when they matter most. If you get stuck during the global release, remember to seek help and check community tips.

Early mistakes are common, but learning from others’ experience can save you time and gold. Focus on leveling your main, upgrading the right pets, and slowly building your gear. This approach will make your journey smoother and more enjoyable.
