Ultimate Heian Beginner’s Guide, How to Level Up Fast, Get Cursed Techniques, & More!

Starting out in Heian can be overwhelming. With no in-game tutorial and a deep progression system, many new players are left to figure things out on their own. If you’re one of them, this guide is built for you. We’ll break down everything you need to know as a beginner—from basic combat to how to get your cursed technique and level up quickly. No advanced mechanics here, just what you need to get started on the right foot.
What Is Heian?
Heian is an open testing Roblox game inspired by the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, featuring combat-heavy gameplay where players use cursed energy and techniques. You start by picking a clan, earning reputation, and collecting gear to progress. There’s a strong focus on exploration, crafting, and fighting—whether against enemies in the world or other players.
Beginner Essentials: What You Need to Know
1. Key NPCs and Locations
When you first spawn, there’s no tutorial—but take note of these key NPCs and buildings:
- Blacksmith – Craft and unlock weapons or armor using blueprints.
- Merchant – Sell trinkets and unwanted items.
- Barber – Change your appearance.
- Bounty Board / Reputation Trader – Accept missions and trade earned reputation.
2. Controls & Combat Basics
The combat system in Heian is deep but starts with these basics:
- M1 – Basic attacks
- M2 – Feint
- Q – Dodge
- F – Parry
- CTRL + M1 – Uptilt combo
- Space + M1 – Aerial attack
- Hold Space + M1 – Downslam
- Double W – Sprint
You can check all keybinds anytime from the settings menu at the top left of your screen.
How to Level Up Fast in Heian
You can level up in two main ways:
A. Defeat World Enemies
Roam the map and defeat random NPCs. They drop EXP, gear, and chests containing valuable loot like trinkets, schematics, and sometimes even weapons.
B. Complete Missions
Open your quest tab by pressing Tab, then accept missions like Rescue Hostage or Eliminate Enemies. Missions give EXP, chests, and reputation—which is important for crafting items later.
Skill Points, Stats & Progression
As you level up, you gain skill points. Here’s what each stat does:
- Agility – Improves climbing and mobility.
- Vitality – Increases your HP.
- Strength – Boosts some melee weapon damage.
- Cursed Energy – Increases your energy and slightly enhances cursed technique damage.
- Cursed Output – Boosts technique damage and energy usage efficiency.
Open the skill tree by pressing M. Invest points into different paths (e.g., Strength, Cursed Output, etc.). Skills can be activated or deactivated by clicking on them. If your skill inventory is full, trainers won’t teach you new ones, so be sure to disable unused skills to free up space.
How to Get Cursed Techniques & Fighting Styles
- Cursed Techniques can be obtained by talking to specific trainers scattered across the map.
- You can only have one Cursed Technique and one Fighting Style.
- Unlocking new techniques often requires freeing up inventory slots in your skill tree.
There are currently around 10 techniques in the game. While domain expansions aren’t available yet, this is just the beginning—Heian is still in open testing.
Crafting Gear Using Blueprints
Loot chests and world enemies to obtain schematics/blueprints. To use them:
- Visit any Blacksmith.
- Choose “Need Forge Items”, then select “Unlock Recipes”.
- Spend Reputation to learn the recipe.
- Once learned, you can forge weapons or armor like Assassin Attire or Dark Purge Greatsword.
Reputation is earned through quests and is vital for crafting powerful items.
Fast Travel with Runestones
Heian’s map is large, but you can teleport using Runestones. These are scattered across biomes and act as fast travel points once discovered. Activate them to make exploring much easier.
Heian doesn’t hold your hand, but that’s what makes it so rewarding. Focus on learning the controls, completing missions, and exploring for cursed techniques and gear. Manage your skill inventory wisely, invest in key stats, and take advantage of crafting and fast travel to speed up your progress. This guide should cover all the basics you need to thrive as a beginner—everything else, you’ll discover as you grow stronger in the world of Heian.
