What is Absolvement?
Absolvement is a challenging roguelite dungeon crawler with permadeath, developed by Amorian Skies. The game features randomly generated dungeons that get harder as you progress, requiring skill, timing, and strategy. You’ll fight tough enemies, collect talent cards, weapons, and upgrade your character as you go deeper into the crypts. You can play alone or with up to four other players in co-op.
Starting Out: Character Slots and Customization
When you first load the game, you get three free character slots, and a fourth slot is available to buy with Robux (Roblox currency). Character customization lets you pick from different races, each with unique buffs and debuffs. For example, some races boost shadow damage but reduce max health. The choice influences your playstyle, but you don’t have to worry too much at first since you can unlock skills and weapons as you progress. Note that naming your character requires Robux as well, so you’ll start without a custom name initially.
Skills, Sins, and Progression
You start with one skill, but you can unlock many more using shards found in the game. Popular weapon choices include the rapier or katana for faster attacks, and heavier weapons for slower but stronger hits.
You also pick a “sin” — a kind of flaw or drawback. If you’re new, choosing sins like Pride or Theft is recommended because they don’t drastically affect gameplay. The game is permadeath: you start with three lives, and losing them all means you start over.
Game Interface and Controls
The UI shows your health, mana, and cooldowns for your roll and parry abilities. You can customize keybindings to your preference. The hotbar allows you to equip skills and potions. Use potions during dungeon runs by holding a key (default V).
Town and Merchants
Outside the dungeons, you can visit the town to interact with NPCs:
- Blacksmith: Upgrade your armor and weapons.
- Barber: Cosmetic changes for a small gold fee.
- Quest Givers: Complete simple quests like opening chests to earn rewards.
- Merchants: Buy and sell items to manage your gold.
How to Get and Use Skills
Skills come from crystals or shards you collect inside dungeons. You can combine common shards to make rarer ones or trade them to get the element you want. Skills shape your build, so experiment with different types like shadow, nature, or others.
Entering Dungeons
To start a dungeon, open the globe icon and create or join a party (up to five players). You can play solo or with friends, but bosses can be tough, so co-op is recommended for beginners.
Inside dungeons:
- Use the minimap (press M) to navigate.
- Orange squares are doors, red squares are stairs.
- Enemy difficulty increases with dungeon level.
- Learn to parry enemy attacks with the F key to avoid damage.
- Collect loot, open barrels for consumables, and explore rooms.
Special Rooms and Orbs
Some dungeon rooms contain orbs that trigger special events:
- Merchant Orb: Buy or sell items.
- Devil Deal Orb: Choose between rewards like money, stronger weapons, or better card chances — but always with a debuff.
Other rooms might have puzzles or challenges, like Simon Says, where success rewards you with orbs or loot.
Boss Fights
Bosses are randomly chosen and require good timing to parry and dodge attacks. Each boss has unique moves and patterns. When a boss’s stagger bar fills, it’s your chance to deal heavy damage.
Take your time to learn the controls and combat mechanics.Experiment with different races, sins, and skills to find what fits your style. Play with friends if you can, as dungeons and bosses are easier with teamwork. Keep an eye on the game’s Discord and Trello for updates, bug fixes, and new content. With patience and practice, you’ll get the hang of Absolvement’s deep mechanics and enjoy its challenging gameplay. Good luck in the dungeons!
