In DIG, enchanting is one of the most expensive but rewarding systems in the game. By applying enchantments to your shovels, you can gain powerful boosts and special effects that improve your digging efficiency and profits. But since Enchantment Tomes are rare and costly, you’ll want to be selective about which shovel you enchant — and which enchantment you aim for. Here’s a full breakdown of the enchantment system in DIG, including a tier list, how to enchant, how to get tomes, and which shovels are actually worth enchanting. How to Enchant in DIG

  • You can enchant a shovel by using an Enchantment Tome at the Enchantment Altar, located in Azure Hollow inside the Cinder Cavern.
  • To get there, take the elevator from the surface of Cinder Cavern (costs $1,000), then follow the path with glowing blue mushrooms.
  • Each enchantment is random, so rerolling until you get a top-tier enchant can get expensive fast.

How to Get Enchantment Tomes

  • Enchantment Tomes have a ~1/250 chance of dropping randomly while digging.
  • Alternatively, once you reach level 25, you can go to the Wizard’s Tower in Rooftop Woodlands.
  • The Wizard only appears during clear summer nights and sells each tome for $15,000.

Best Enchantments to Aim For

  • Wumbo is hands down the best enchantment in the game. It’s ideal for farming rare, high-value loot and has no downside.
  • If you can’t get Wumbo, Bulky, Strong, Swift, and Lucky are great secondary options, especially if your shovel has high base stats in those areas.
  • Avoid spending tomes on low-tier enchants like Noir or Abundant, unless you’re experimenting or just grinding.

What Shovels Are Worth Enchanting?

Since enchanting is expensive, only use tomes on end-game shovels. The best shovels to enchant are:

  • Prismatic Shovel
  • Starfire Shovel

If you’re still using mid-tier tools, it’s better to save your tomes until you’re ready for top-tier gear.

Enchanting can be a game-changer in DIG, especially if you land the right enchant on the right shovel. Wumbo remains the ultimate goal, but several other options offer excellent boosts. Focus on enchanting high-end shovels only, and be strategic with your tomes — they don’t come cheap. Keep digging, and may RNG be on your side.
