The next major update in Grow a Garden has been leaked, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting ones yet. Dubbed the Prehistoric Update, this new patch is bringing dinosaurs, mutations, crafting systems, and even changes to seed shops. Whether you’re a casual player or a dedicated gardener, this guide covers all the key information so you can be fully prepared when the update goes live. Also check out our Grow a Garden Prehistoric Codes for more rewards!

The Summer Seed Shop is Being Replaced

Let’s start with one of the biggest changes: the Summer Seed Shop is being removed and replaced with the original seed shop from earlier versions of the game. All current summer seeds—including unique types like Rafflesia, Pineapple, Bell Pepper, Avocado, and more—will be gone in under 10 hours.

However, don’t panic—these seeds won’t vanish forever. They will still be available, but only through a Traveling Merchant that will occasionally appear. Still, if there are any summer seeds you want right now, make sure to buy them before the timer ends.

New Feature: Trade Pets for Dinosaurs

In the upcoming update, you’ll be able to trade your current pets for dinosaur eggs. A new NPC named Graeme will facilitate this feature. You offer one of your pets—like a rooster—and in exchange, you receive a dinosaur egg.

Important note: you don’t get the dinosaur directly—you get a dinosaur egg, which must be hatched like any other pet.

There’s no confirmation yet on whether pet rarity affects your dinosaur egg result, but the best thing to do is start collecting common eggs now. Stockpile pets to trade so you’re ready to exchange when the update drops.

Egg Notifier System (Highly Recommended)

To prepare properly, you’ll want to gather as many pets as possible. A good method is using an egg notifier system, which alerts you when eggs are in stock. If you haven’t already, consider joining a Discord server that includes real-time egg stock notifications, pet trading opportunities, and update discussions.

Two-Sided Event Map: Trading & Crafting

The update will also introduce a two-part event area:

  1. Trading Area – Where you exchange pets for dinosaur eggs.
  2. Crafting Station – A new bench resembling a crafting table (with a hammer and wrench icon), hinting at a system where players can craft items, potentially even new seeds.

There’s no full confirmation yet, but it’s possible that this new crafting system ties into future events or new seed types.

New Mutations Already in the Game

Even before the update is officially live, new mutations have quietly been added to the game. You can already find them in the wild or through normal gameplay:

  • Sandy Mutation – Comes from the Sandstorm Event. This changes your plant into a sand-covered form.
  • Ceramic Mutation – Possibly created by combining wet and sandstone mutations, though its exact method is still unknown.
  • Clay Mutation – Gives plants a chalky brown look, similar to the chalk mutation, but with a distinct appearance.

These are not future leaks—they’re already live, so keep your eyes open while farming.

Pet Inventory Upgrade

Another long-requested feature is finally here: you can now expand your pet inventory. This works through the same trade-in method used in other systems. Trade pets in exchange for more storage slots. It’s a smart way to clear space and make room for new dinosaur eggs and future pet collections.

What You Need to Do Right Now

Several features and limited-time items will disappear when the update drops. Here’s your checklist:

  • Buy all Summer Seeds from the seasonal shop.
  • Collect and age your pets, especially common ones for trading.
  • Complete the Harvest Event and grab all associated rewards.
  • Get Fourth of July seeds and pets, as that event is ending with this update.

Time is short. Prioritize grabbing anything exclusive before it’s gone for good or moved behind future time-limited features.

The Prehistoric Update in Grow a Garden is set to bring a lot of depth and new gameplay elements—from trading pets for dino eggs to crafting systems and new mutations. With features already surfacing in-game and major changes coming to the seed economy, now’s the perfect time to prepare. Stock up, age your pets, and get those final summer rewards before the next chapter in the garden begins. Be ready—the dinos are coming.
