Gems are one of the most important currencies in ASTD X. They let you summon powerful units, buy essential items, and speed up your progress. But unlike many tower defense games, farming gems in ASTD X is not straightforward or easy. The game lacks a solid, reliable gem farming method, which can be frustrating. This guide breaks down the best ways to get gems so you can build your team faster without wasting time. Also check out our ASTD X Tier List for those that are new to the game!

1. Daily and Weekly Quests: The Most Consistent Gem Source

Your best baseline for steady gem income is doing daily quests every day. These give varying amounts of gems:

  • Daily quest rewards can range from 100 to 600 gems per day.
  • Weekly quests add an extra batch of gems, which help boost your stash over time.

Although the amount per day isn’t huge, this method is consistent and essential for long-term gem farming.

2. Map NPC Quests: High Gem Rewards for Challenging Battles

Scattered across the map are NPCs marked with orange or red question marks. These NPCs offer special quests with valuable gem rewards:

  • Mission 1 usually gives around 150 to 200 gems.
  • Mission 2 offers higher rewards, up to 450 gems, but these battles are very tough.

You can only complete these quests once, so don’t miss them. The trick is to have a strong team, ideally with EVO Mythic units, to handle these fights. Using a strategy of overwhelming the boss with many stun-prone units while having one strong upgraded unit focus attacks is effective.

Completing all first missions can net you roughly 3,000 gems, which is a significant boost.

3. Hard Mode Story Completion: One-Time Big Gem Payout

Completing stages in Hard Mode story gives you around 70 gems per stage. If you clear all hard stages, you can earn roughly 2,000 gems total.

This method takes time and isn’t repeatable, but it’s a nice chunk of gems to help early or mid-game players.

4. Trials Mode: High Gem Rewards but Requires Strength

Once you reach level 25, you unlock Trials. These are challenging stages that reward:

  • Around 200 gems per trial clear.
  • A small chance for high-value rewards like Asdeath or special coins.

Trial stages can be tough, and you might need multiple Mythic or EVO units to clear them reliably. It’s unclear whether rewards are repeatable, so test this out as you progress.

5. Unit Collection Rewards

Don’t forget the Unit Collection feature, which gives you gems based on the units you have:

  • Claim around 200 gems for every Mythic unit you unlock.
  • Other unit rarities also grant smaller gem bonuses.

Make sure to check and claim these rewards regularly to maximize your gem count.

6. Why Farming Gems Is Difficult & What Could Improve

  • Infinite mode and the AFK chamber give very minimal gems (1 gem per wave or worse), which feels unrewarding.
  • The game currently lacks a reliable, repeatable gem farm, meaning players must rely on daily quests and one-time event clears.
  • Macro farming is mostly useful for leveling, not gem farming.
  • Many players hope for future updates to buff gem rewards or add new farming methods.

Always complete your daily and weekly quests without fail. Focus on beating the first NPC missions across the map for solid gem payouts. Work towards building a team strong enough to tackle Trials for more rewards. Claim every unit collection reward you can. Consider clearing Hard Mode story stages once for a big gem boost.

While gem farming in ASTD X isn’t as simple as in other tower defense games, following these methods will help you accumulate gems steadily. Patience and strategic progression are key to unlocking the best units and content in the game.

If you find any new gem farming methods or tricks, share them with the community. The game is still evolving, and better gem farming options may come soon. Until then, stick to these solid strategies and keep pushing forward.
