The Zen Update for Grow a Garden is just around the corner, and it’s bringing a wave of new features, limited-time items, and game-changing mechanics. If you want to make the most of it, there are a few important things you must do before the update drops on July 19. This guide covers everything confirmed, leaked, and speculated — so let’s get right into it.  Also check out our Grow a Garden Codes & Grow a Garden Pet Tier List for new players.

1. Finish the Prehistoric Event Before It’s Gone Forever

The Prehistoric Event is officially ending with the Zen Update. This means all related content — including:

  • Dinosaur Pets
  • Bone Blossom
  • Amber Spray
  • Ancient Seed Pack
  • Dino Crate

…will no longer be available. These are limited-time items and won’t return. If you haven’t gotten them yet, this is your last chance. Grind now or miss out for good.

2. Look Out for the New Zen Event Content

The Zen Update is themed around calm and tranquility, featuring a limited-time Zen event that brings:

  • New Zen-themed Seeds
  • Tranquil Pets
  • Cosmetic Decorations (bamboo, fountains, ponds)
  • A Mysterious NPC (possibly for quests or a shop)
  • New Tree (Unknown type)

Expect the map center to change, replacing the prehistoric area with a peaceful Zen garden aesthetic. Keep your eyes open for hidden content and quests tied to the new NPC.

3. Don’t Miss the New Pet: Nine-Tailed Fox

One of the most exciting new additions is the Nine-Tailed Fox Pet. It’s confirmed to appear in the update and brings a unique mechanic:

  • Targets another player’s plant
  • Mutates it in their garden
  • Clones the plant and brings it back to yours

It’s like a mix of the raccoon and fennec fox pets, offering both utility and profit without full-on theft. This pet is likely to become a favorite among players looking to farm efficiently.

4. Prepare for the Radioactive Mutation Event

An admin-only event is being added — and it’s wild. Here’s what happens:

  • A giant carrot rocket (nuke) must be fueled using fruit.
  • Once full, it launches and triggers a radioactive explosion.
  • The explosion causes some plants to mutate into the new Radioactive Mutation type.

This will only occur during special event times, so log in early before the Zen update — even an hour before — to catch this unique mutation. It may provide a major money boost, based on early tests.

5. A New Code Is Coming — Be Ready

The Zen update will introduce a new redeemable code, which is a big deal. The last code gave players a free bug egg, one of the most powerful eggs at the time. This new code might offer something equally valuable, so make sure you:

  • Check the in-game settings for the code tab.
  • Redeem it early before it gets patched or abusers ruin it.

6. Save Slots (Multi-Garden) Feature Is Finally Coming

One of the most requested features in Grow a Garden — Save Slots — is on the way. You’ll be able to:

  • Have multiple gardens on one account
  • Create separate farms for aesthetics, grinding, or testing layouts

This is a massive quality-of-life update for players who want to organize their gameplay and try different setups without deleting their main garden.

7. Keep an Eye on Speculated Content

Some exciting community concepts and developer hints could also become reality soon:

  • Trading system: Confirmed to be in development, starting with plant and pet trading
  • Gloomy Egg: Could contain exotic and nocturnal pets like bats
  • Japanese Seeds & Cherry Blossom: May return with the Zen/Japan-themed event

Though not officially confirmed, these features align with the current update direction and could drop without notice.

The Zen Update is one of the biggest shifts in Grow a Garden so far, not just for the new cosmetics and pets, but for how it expands gameplay. With a fresh theme, high-value features, and long-awaited additions like save slots and admin events, it’s the perfect time to log in, clean up your garden, and prep for the new content. Don’t sleep on it — once it drops, everything changes. Stay ready, and don’t forget to redeem that code the moment it goes live!
