Update 2 for All Star Tower Defense X has brought in a bunch of new units, but only a few really stand out in terms of performance and value. Whether you’re grinding Infinite Mode or clearing harder maps, there are three standout units (plus one honorable mention) you should consider adding to your roster right away. Here’s a complete breakdown of the top 3 must-have units in ASTDX’s latest update.

4. Chrollo (Unbound)

Chrollo, from Hunter x Hunter, is a rare Unbound unit found in Banner X. While he brings a powerful one-time-use nuke ability, his overall value is held back by his extreme rarity (around 0.01% – 1%) and lack of consistent performance.

You’ll also need Allstar equipped on him to fully benefit from his nuke. Despite being one of the only nuke-type units in the game, the fact that it’s only usable once and he’s so hard to get makes him a lower priority—especially when more accessible units outperform him in regular gameplay. Check out how to get Chrollo Guide for more redeemable rewards.

3. Alligator

Alligator brings high DPS and solid stats, but his biggest drawback is being a ground-only unit. With flying enemies becoming more dominant in the newer maps, bringing only ground units is becoming a liability.

He still performs well with high damage, but his utility is limited by the lack of anti-air capability. In current meta, hybrid or hill units are simply more useful. He’s a great pick for raw damage but not essential if you need versatility.

2. Ace

Ace recently got a much-needed buff and now feels like a totally different unit. His AoE range is massive, and he applies burn damage over time, which stacks well in longer fights. Ace is also cheap to deploy, especially without Allstar equipped, making him ideal for early to mid-game setups.

What makes him valuable is that he can hit air enemies, a feature many burn units lack. His burn, range, and overall cost-efficiency make him one of the best support-DPS hybrid units right now. While his total DPS caps around 10–12K, his ability to hit air units puts him above many burn-only ground units.

1.  Killua

There’s no real competition—Killua is the clear best unit in Update 2. He’s a hill unit with full AoE capability at max upgrade, which already gives him a huge advantage over most others. Here’s what makes Killua so powerful:

  • Full AoE attacks that hit multiple enemies at once
  • Can target air enemies, which is crucial in the current meta
  • Has a built-in stun mechanic that triggers with his attacks
  • Extremely cheap in early upgrades, making him viable even in tight farm setups
  • Applies shock damage over multiple ticks
  • Stun stacks with other effects like Freeze or Slow, allowing great synergy

Even though his DPS number doesn’t look massive on paper, his wide range, low SPA (1.17s), and the fact that he can stun and hit air units make him arguably the most complete unit in the entire game. His only minor limitation is the 35-enemy cap on AoE, but in most cases, that won’t be a problem.

Update 2 of ASTDX shifted the meta toward versatile units that can hit both ground and air enemies effectively. While many new characters were added, only a few truly shine in practical use. If you’re short on gems and want to invest wisely, prioritize Killua first, then Ace, and consider Alligator if you need more DPS.

Chrollo is great to have but not worth chasing unless you already have a deep gem pool. Choosing the right units can be the difference between breezing through endgame or getting stuck on later waves. Make your picks carefully—and good luck summoning!
