Players Want Daddy Varka Genshin Impact
After being mentioned for years in Genshin Impact, Varka has finally made an official appearance in the newest Song of the Welkin Moon Trailer. However, the reaction from players hasn’t been entirely positive. It’s not that his design is bad—it just didn’t match what many fans were expecting.
Varka is the Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius and a highly respected figure in Mondstadt. He’s often mentioned by characters like Jean, Rosaria, and Razor. Rosaria and Razor even describe him as a father figure, while Jean refers to him as a legend.
Because of these mentions, players imagined Varka as a much older man—someone in his 50s or even older, with a beard, battle scars, and the presence of a seasoned warrior. Around two months ago, Venti hinted that Varka was “neither young nor old,” but that didn’t stop fans from picturing him as a veteran leader with a strong and rugged appearance.
A Younger Varka Than Expected

When the official image was finally revealed, it showed a version of Varka that looked much younger than anticipated. No beard, no scars, and none of the visual traits that players associated with an experienced Grand Master.
For a character who’s been talked about with such high regard, many felt he should’ve looked tougher or more battle-worn. The younger look threw off fans who had imagined a very different version of him.
Player Reactions Expectations vs Reality

The disappointment mainly stems from a clash between fan imagination and the official design. While Varka still looks cool, some players feel a part of their long-standing expectations wasn’t fulfilled.
Still, it’s important to remember that the final design is based on the artistic direction chosen by HoYoverse. And just like many other characters in the game, Varka likely has a deeper backstory that we haven’t fully seen yet.
Despite the mixed reactions, Varka remains a key figure in Genshin Impact’s lore. His journey outside Mondstadt, and what he’s experienced, is still mostly a mystery. What’s clear is that his role in the story is far from over.
