Grow a Garden on Roblox just introduced a big new feature: Pet Mutations. These powerful boosts change how your pets behave and can even help you earn more, grow faster, and boost your garden. But not all pet mutations are equal—some are amazing, others… not so much. In this guide, we’re breaking down every pet mutation, explaining what each one does, and ranking them from worst to best based on how useful they really are in-game. What Are Pet Mutations in Grow a Garden?

Pet Mutations are special traits you can add to pets that are Level 50 or higher. Once mutated, pets get permanent boosts, ranging from extra XP to insane fruit multipliers. You can only mutate a pet once, so choosing the right mutation is crucial. Let’s dive into what each mutation does and where they land on the tier list.

How to Unlock Pet Mutations

  • Level Your Pet to 50 • Play with it, feed it XP treats, and keep it active until it reaches max level.
  • Find the Mutation Machine • It’s the green pod next to the Pet Eggs & Gear vendors.
  • Submit Your Pet • Interact with the pod, choose your pet, and start the one‑hour mutation process (or skip with 49 Robux).
  • Receive Your Mutated Pet • Your pet’s age resets to 1 but gains its new mutation ability.

Speeding Up Pet Aging

Since pets must hit level 50 before mutating, here are the fastest ways to age them:

  • Small Treat → +12 hours of XP
  • Medium Treat → +24 hours of XP
  • Level‑Up Lollipop → +1 year of age (expensive, but powerful)
  • Pair with XP‑Boost Pets • Brown Mouse, Capybara, Starfish, Sea Turtle, Owl, Night Owl, Blood Owl, Iguanodon

Feed treats daily and keep your pet near XP‑boosting companions to shave days off the leveling grind.

  • Radiant (3.12%) Every 20–30 m, accelerate a plant’s growth by 24 hours with emitted sunlight.
  • Shocked (3.12%) During thunderstorms, has a 25–30% chance every 45–60 s to call lightning that shocks nearby crops.
  • Rainbow (3.12%) Provides an even bigger boost to the pet’s passive ability.
  • Tranquil (3.12%) Applies the Tranquil crop mutation every 25 minutes.
  • Corrupt (3.12%) Applies the Corrupt crop mutation every 25 minutes.
  • Ascended (0.31%) Every 300–360 m, 75–90% chance to grant the Dawnbound mutation to nearby crops.

S-Tier (Top Tier – Must-Have)

Ascended (0.31%)

  • Effect: Applies Dawnbound mutation every 300–360m with 75–90% chance.
  • Why it’s S-Tier: Extremely rare and powerful. Dawnbound is one of the best mutations for late-game farming. Perfect for serious players aiming for maximum yield and rare crops.

IronSkin (3.12%)

  • Effect: 35–45% chance to recover stolen fruits.
  • Why it’s S-Tier: Essential for PvP-heavy servers or public gardens. Prevents theft and loss, which is especially useful when growing rare or mutated plants.

A-Tier (Very Strong – Highly Recommended)

Inverted (15.58%)

  • Effect: +30% XP per second.
  • Why it’s A-Tier: Fast XP farming allows you to quickly re-level pets post-mutation. Good for cycling through multiple mutations faster.

Frozen (9.35%)

  • Effect: 20–30% chance to freeze nearby fruits every 0.5–5m.
  • Why it’s A-Tier: Combos well with crop mutation strategies. Good for farming Frozen mutation fruits passively.

Tranquil / Corrupt (3.12% each)

  • Effect: Applies Tranquil or Corrupt mutation every 25 minutes.
  • Why it’s A-Tier: These directly feed into event systems. Very useful for grinding crates and event-related rewards like Kitsune pets.

B-Tier (Good – Situational Use)

Shiny (31.15%)

  • Effect: +15% XP per second.
  • Why it’s B-Tier: Lower XP bonus than Inverted but still helpful, especially for casual players or early stages of pet growth.

Radiant (3.12%)

  • Effect: Every 20–30m speeds up crop growth by 24 hours.
  • Why it’s B-Tier: Can shave off a full day of wait time, but range dependency makes it less reliable unless you’re moving frequently.

Tiny (6.23%)

  • Effect: Slows hunger by 20%, +5–30 XP per second.
  • Why it’s B-Tier: Decent passive XP gain with added bonus of slower hunger drain, making it good for idle players.

C-Tier (Average – Niche Benefits)

Mega (6.23%)

  • Effect: Boosts hunger by 20%, +10–40 XP per second.
  • Why it’s C-Tier: More XP, but faster hunger can make it a chore to maintain. Better for short bursts than passive farming.

Windy (9.35%)

  • Effect: Windstruck mutation chance every 30–300m.
  • Why it’s C-Tier: Works like Frozen but with larger range and less consistent outcome. Still good for mutation farming but not as efficient.

Rainbow (3.12%)

  • Effect: Larger boost to passive ability.
  • Why it’s C-Tier: Only useful if your pet already has a strong passive. Otherwise, effect is hard to measure.

D-Tier (Low Impact or Rarely Useful)

Golden (6.23%)

  • Effect: Boosts passive ability slightly.
  • Why it’s D-Tier: Like Rainbow, but less effective. Only really matters for certain pets.

Shocked (3.12%)

  • Effect: 25–30% chance to attract lightning during storms, shocking crops.
  • Why it’s D-Tier: Too niche. Requires thunderstorm conditions and may not be reliable for consistent farming.

If you’re aiming for top efficiency in Grow a Garden, you’ll want to reroll for Rainbow, Golden, Shocked, Radiant, or Ascended. These provide the biggest benefits either in profit or plant growth. Anything in the A tier is still solid, especially for leveling pets. But if you land a B-tier mutation, consider mutating again if you’re trying to optimize. With the right pet mutation, your whole garden can transform. So make sure you’re mutating wisely and aiming high.
