After accepting a quest from the NPC Nero near the wheelhouse, you’re sent into the Sunken Bastille. The mission involves defeating a guard and recovering Nero’s lost item. Once that’s done, however, the game doesn’t teleport you out—you’ll need to find a key and manually make your way out of the dungeon.
5 Step by Step to Escape Sunken Bastille Apocrypha Guide
1. Complete Nero’s Mission and Prepare to Explore
After you defeat the guard and return Nero’s missing item, you won’t be whisked back automatically. Instead, this is your chance to scavenge free materials, weapons, and crafting components scattered around the Bastille. Before heading for the exit, dive into side cells and corridors to maximize your haul.
2. Locate the Prison Cell with the Master Key
- Head to the main guard area. On the far left, spot the prison cell with a partially broken door.
- Step inside and look for a crack in the left wall. Crouch and slip through into the adjacent cell.
- From there, leap through another gap in the ruined wall to reach the third cell.
- Open the treasure chest you find there and pick up the key that unlocks every door in the dungeon.
3. Enter the Secret Hallway
- Exit the cell and turn left. You’ll see wooden crates and barrels lining the corridor.
- Just past them, locate another narrow crack—squeeze through to enter a hidden passage.
- Proceed by turning left, then first right, and walk straight to a locked door. Use your key to open it.
- Beyond lies a chamber with broken pillars and fire pots over shallow water. Employ your platforming skills to cross safely.
4. Navigate the Lever-and-Gate Puzzle
- After the water section, you’ll emerge into another hallway. At the end, climb the ladder on your right.
- Move forward until you face a large gate with a lever on its right side.
- Pull Lever A to raise Gate 1. Walk through to confront two more gates.
- On the left, find Lever B—pull it to open Gate 2. Beyond it lies Gate 3, which has no lever.
To unlock Gate 3:
- Leave Gate 2 open, then return and toggle Lever A again. This closes Gate 1 but briefly opens Gate 3.
- Sprint through Gates 1, 2, and 3 in succession before Gate 3 closes.
5. Escape Through the Teleport Door
At the end of the final hallway, you’ll reach a massive door. Approach it and press E to activate the teleport back to the Flying Airship. Congratulations—you’ve escaped the Sunken Bastille!
