Haikyuu Fly High Beginner Guide, Tips, & Tricks!
With the global launch of Haikyuu!! Fly High! officially confirmed for July 31st, fans of the legendary sports anime finally have the chance to dive into an all-new volleyball-inspired mobile experience. Whether you’re familiar with the anime or completely new to the series, this game combines strategic gameplay, gacha mechanics, and turn-based volleyball matches to create something fresh and engaging. Here’s everything you need to know to get started—and dominate early on.
What is Haikyuu!! Fly High!?
Haikyuu!! Fly High! is a mobile game based on the hit anime Haikyuu!!, a series centered around high school volleyball and underdog rivalries. In the game, you’ll collect and upgrade iconic characters from the show, form strategic teams, and compete in volleyball matches that combine turn-based combat with RPG-style mechanics.
While it’s centered around volleyball, the game cleverly blends in gacha elements, team building, and tactical decision-making during matches. From assembling your ideal squad to selecting the right skills during critical plays, success in Haikyuu!! Fly High! depends just as much on preparation as performance.
How to Recruit the Best Players

There are two main things you summon in this game: Players and Memories.
- Players are your core team members, each with positions, rarity, skills, and stats.
- Memories can be equipped to give stat boosts to characters in the same role.
Types of Banners:
- Standard Recruit (Permanent Banner): Can usually be skipped as it’s the least rewarding.
- Select Recruit (SSR Banner): Guarantees one SSR every 80 pulls with a wish list and 50/50 system.
- UR Banner: Adds even higher-tier characters, with a 140-pull pity for UR units and SSR pity at 80.
- Battle Pass Banner: Offers one SSR unit per battle pass, but requires real money to realistically reach the pity.
Pro Tip: Always save diamonds for UR banners. Use free purple tickets on Select Recruit banners and avoid spending diamonds on them.
Character Progression: Rarity, Skills & Star Ratings

Characters are locked to specific positions like Setter, Middle Blocker, or Libero. You can level them up, raise their star rating, and unlock up to four unique skills. The last skill is hidden behind a progression node that requires training materials to unlock.
Dupes (duplicate characters) are valuable—they allow you to increase skill levels, which in turn unlock Skill Resonance bonuses for additional stats or abilities. Each character also has a Star Rating that determines the level cap:
- 3★ → Level 40 cap
- 4★ → Level 60 cap
…and so on.
Team Building: The Heart of the Game

Each match requires a balanced squad of 7 players:
- 2 Middle Blockers
- 2 Wing Spikers
- 1 Setter
- 1 Opposite Hitter
- 1 Libero
Teams rotate positions during gameplay, mimicking real volleyball rules. You’ll also need to assign subs, such as pinch servers or defensive switches, and manage your Liberos for situational subs.
Lineup Specialty System (RPS System):
There are four team types:
- Quick Attack
- Block
- Power Attack
- Receive
They follow a rock-paper-scissors format. Your team specialty is determined primarily by your Setter, so swapping them can change your entire strategic profile mid-game.
Bond System: Passive Boosts & Team Synergy

There are two types of bonds:
- Deployment Bonds: Require specific characters on the field to activate bonuses (e.g., more morale gain).
- Passive Bonds: Grant bonuses just by owning specific characters, regardless of whether they’re active.
You can further stack School Bonds by fielding 4 characters from the same school, offering another layer of team synergy.
Check the Bond Gallery to explore all the possible character connections and build toward powerful combinations.
Inside a Volleyball Match: Turn-Based Action
Matches begin with your team serving. You choose the serve direction based on the opponent’s weaknesses, then transition through receiving, blocking, setting, and spiking actions. Each move has skill options based on cooldowns and character roles. Timing and choices matter:
- Perfect timing on serves or spikes increases success rate.
- Critical hits and RNG can shift momentum unexpectedly.
- Skill levels, matchups, and team synergy impact your performance.
Matches are a blend of planning and chance, but the better prepared team usually wins.
Additional Features: Beyond the Court
Haikyuu!! Fly High! offers more than just matches:
- Base Building: Decorate your home and place characters for minor bonuses.
- Clubs (Guilds): Join other players and enjoy cooperative missions.
- Minigames: Play quizzes and events for extra rewards.
- PvP Mode: Compete against other players’ AI-controlled teams in ranked battles.
