Bankai in Type Soul is more than just a power-up—it’s the peak of a Shinigami’s strength, rivaling the might of Arrancar’s Resurreccion and Quincies’ Vollständig. Gaining Bankai is a challenging multi-stage journey, but with the right path and luck, you’ll gain access to one of the most powerful forms in the game. This guide will cover how to get Bankai, the best weapon and element variants, and which combos are worth chasing.

How to Unlock Bankai in Type Soul

Stage 1: Earning Progress Points

To begin your Bankai journey, you must accumulate 13 progress points by doing any of the following:

  • Win 7 Clan Wars (2 points each)
  • Win 26 Ranked Matches (0.5 points each)
  • Win 13 Raids (1 point each)

Track your progress by talking to the NPC in Karakura Town (KT). His dialogue will reflect how close you are to unlocking Bankai.

Stage 2: Combat & Kill Requirements

After completing Stage 1, move on to:

  • Kill 1 World Boss (Bawa-Bawa or Jidanbo)
  • Get 50 Hollow Kills
  • Perform 10 Elite Grips on the opposite faction

Talk to your Inner World NPC using ‘M’ to monitor your progress. Dying during this stage will reset your progress.

Stage 2.5: Zanpakuto Minigame

  • Visit Kisuke south of the bank in KT. He will transport you into a minigame room.
  • Choose the 3 real Zanpakuto among fakes. You get 3 chances, with failed attempts creating a blue trail toward the real one.
  • If you fail, you must wait 60 minutes, or grip an enemy to bypass the timer.

Stage 3: Inner World Boss Fight

  • Meditate with ‘M’, then fight your Inner World NPC, now wielding Bankai.
  • Defeat them to officially unlock Bankai. You’ll exit the battle with Bankai active.
  • No cooldown penalty if you fail, as of the 7/25/2024 update.

Note: Rerolling your element resets the final fight. Rerolling Shikai does not.

Best Bankai Weapon Variants (Rarity-Based)

Your Bankai weapon is randomly chosen from a pool based on rarity.

Mythic (0.5% Chance)

  • Rapier
  • Odachi

Legendary (3%)

  • Longsword
  • Dagger
  • Scythe

Common (96.5%)

  • Greatsword
  • Hammer
  • Katana
  • Spear
  • Twin Blades
  • Dual Swords
  • Hakuda Gauntlets

Among these, Scythe and Odachi are highly sought-after for their range and versatility, while Twin Blades and Hakuda Gauntlets are great for aggressive close-range builds.

Best Bankai Element Variants

Each Bankai form also has an elemental alignment, rolled similarly by rarity.

Mythic (0.5%)

  • Benihime
  • Kyokasuigetsu
  • Duality
  • Snow

Legendary (3%)

  • Blood
  • Ink
  • Ice
  • Flower
  • Theatre
  • Suzumebachi

Rare (10%)

  • Fire
  • Berserk
  • Wind
  • Zangetsu
  • Poison
  • Judgement
  • Confusion
  • Shinso

Common (86.5%)

  • Water
  • Lightning
  • Shadow
  • Creation

Top-tier picks include Kyokasuigetsu and Benihime for their utility and damage potential, while Theatre is considered the flashiest and most effort-heavy Bankai currently in the game. Zangetsu, Ice, and Blood are also strong options depending on your weapon pairing and playstyle.

Tips for Winning the Bankai Fight

  • Use your Visored form for extra durability during the inner world battle.
  • Master your Shikai first, since you’ll need those reflexes against your powered-up NPC.
  • Avoid rerolling your element mid-progression to prevent a reset on your final fight.
  • Prepare builds with high damage and mobility to survive and overwhelm your NPC in Stage 3.

Bankai in Type Soul is the ultimate goal for any dedicated player. While the road is long—filled with PvP grinds, boss fights, and tricky minigames—the reward is one of the most powerful tools in the game. From high-damage Mythic weapons to flashy and rare elemental forms, your Bankai can truly define your combat identity.

For the best results, aim for a powerful weapon-element combo like Scythe + Kyokasuigetsu or Odachi + Blood. But even with common variants, the strength of Bankai speaks for itself. Train hard, make your way through the stages, and may your rolls be blessed.
