In Type Soul, the Hollow path is a unique progression route filled with PvE farming, survival, and calculated decisions. While the Hollow race starts off feeling underwhelming compared to Soul Reapers and Quincys, it offers a powerful evolution chain that culminates in the Vasto Lorde form — and eventually, Arrancar, where the real gameplay begins.

If you’re new to Hollow or unsure how the progression works, this guide will walk you through each stage, from Fishbone all the way to Arrancar, including mechanics, evolutions, and important tips to make the grind smoother.

Hollow: The Basics

Hollows are one of the four playable races in Type Soul. You start as a Fishbone, a monstrous non-humanoid creature. The Hollow experience focuses heavily on progression through PvE by devouring other Hollows to evolve.

While there are no stat buffs early on, each new evolution gives access to stronger skills like Cero, Stunning Roar, Flashstep, and eventually Cero Oscuras. Key Takeaways:

  • Hollows are weak in early PvP.
  • The goal is to evolve into an Arrancar for real competitive viability.
  • Hollow evolutions: Fishbone → Menos → Adjuchas → Vasto Lorde → Arrancar

Hollow Progression Stages

1. Fishbone

You begin as a Fishbone Hollow, a basic NPC-like form with very little to offer in terms of power. Your main objective here is simple:

  • Hunt and consume other Hollows.

How to Evolve:

  • Kill other Fishbones or low-tier Hollows and devour their remains.
  • After a certain number of kills, you’ll evolve into a Menos.

Tips:

  • Target other Fishbones or idle players.
  • PvE is your best path — avoid PvP unless you’re confident.

2. Menos

Upon becoming a Menos, you’ll take the form of a Gillian-class Hollow. Menos is your first real power spike.

Abilities:

  • Cero: A powerful ranged blast that deals massive damage.

At this stage, you have two progression options:

  • Rip off your mask early to become an Arrancar.
  • Continue evolving to Adjuchas for more power.

Optional Form:

  • Menoscar — a variant state but not a necessary part of progression.

3. Adjuchas

This is where the game starts to ramp up.

Features:

  • Cero remains available.
  • Stronger stats and access to unique Adjuchas variants.

You’ll start at Grade 3, and if you want to reach Vasto Lorde, you’ll need to collect 25 mask cracks by hunting other Adjuchas.

How to Earn Mask Cracks:

  • Kill NPC Adjuchas: +2 cracks
  • Kill player Adjuchas (with cracks): +1 crack
  • Dying: -5 cracks

Once you have 25 cracks, you’ll evolve into Albino Adjuchas — a prelude form to Vasto Lorde.

Important Notes:

  • If you’re killed by another Albino Adjuchas, you lose all your mask cracks.
  • Otherwise, dying only removes 5.

4. Vasto Lorde

The peak of Hollow evolution.

Abilities:

  • Flashstep for improved mobility.
  • Cero Oscuras: An enhanced version of Cero with higher damage and visual flair.
  • Stunning Roar

At this stage, you’re significantly stronger, but PvP is still tough due to the general Hollow limitations. You can now:

  • Rip off your mask to become a Vastocar (Arrancar).

Reminder: Staying as a Vasto Lorde is not recommended for PvP unless you enjoy the pure Hollow experience. Most players rip their mask and transition to the next race for proper competitive strength.

5. Becoming an Arrancar

Once you’ve ripped your mask as a Vasto Lorde, you’ve officially left the Hollow path and entered the Arrancar stage — a powerful humanoid form that opens up new skill trees, builds, and viability in PvP. To learn more about the Arrancar journey, you’ll need to refer to a dedicated Arrancar progression guide.

Hollow progression in Type Soul is a grind-heavy journey with high stakes and rewarding payoffs. Starting as a weak Fishbone, your goal is to evolve quickly and efficiently through Menos, Adjuchas, and ultimately Vasto Lorde before transitioning into an Arrancar.

While the early stages can feel slow and underpowered, sticking with the path rewards you with some of the most visually impressive and powerful forms in the game. Whether you’re grinding solo or with friends, patience and smart farming are the keys to surviving the Hollow experience. Once you’ve completed the Hollow line, you’ll be ready to face any Soul Reaper, Quincy, or Fullbringer that crosses your path. Let the hunt begin.
