The Kitchen Storm update adds a full cooking expansion: a rat that tastes your food, new recipes, new plants, new pets, a recipe book, pet slots, and a powerful weather/event called Kitchen Storm. This guide explains what you need, how the new systems work, and the best ways to take advantage of the update right away. Also check out our Kitchen Storm Update Guide, Codes and More!

What you need

  • Enough plants (preferably with mutations) to cook many dishes.
  • Cooking gear (cauldrons) if you want to use the gorilla chef pet effectively.
  • Patience for RNG — many rewards come from random chests and spins.
  • Shekels / currency to buy any cosmetics or gear you want for your garden.

How the Rat Event (Taste-Testing Rat) works

  1. Cook foods using plants that have mutations. The rat only accepts mutated dishes — plain food is rejected.
  2. Give the mutated food to the taste-testing rat connoisseur. He’ll taste it and present three reward choices. Pick one.
  3. Rewards include the new Culinary Chest (chance to drop seeds and pets), pet shards, and other items. The chest is one of the best outcomes.
  4. Current testing shows no fixed “cravings” for specific foods yet, so mutated food type usually doesn’t matter — only the mutation does. This may change on release.

Tip: If your goal is specific rewards (like pet shards or the chest), grind mutated cooks and keep feeding the rat until you get what you want.

Kitchen Storm (how to trigger & what it does)

Grow A Garden Kitchen Storm Update Full Guide to Finish the Event!

Feed Mr. Fat Piggy with cooked food to fill his meter. Different rarities give different point values (prismatic/transcendent = top, divine/mythical = lower, etc.). When the meter hits 40 points, Kitchen Storm triggers. Effects during Kitchen Storm include:

  • 2× cooking speed (cooks finish faster).
  • Higher mutation carryover (mutations pass to cooked items more often).
  • Increased chance for the new “Aromatic” mutation on fruits.

Kitchen Storm is the best time to mass-cook and chase high-tier mutations.

New recipe system & rarities

  • A Recipe Book records any new recipe you create (must be crafted by you to register). It’s useful to track successful mixes.
  • The update adds a new food rarity above prismatic called Transcendent (top-tier food). Expect Transcendent and other rarities to affect Kitchen Storm points and rewards.

Pet slots & new pet mechanics

Pet slots allow switching between saved pet loadouts. This makes testing event-specific pet stacks (like multiple gorilla chefs) much easier. New pets added (highlights):

  • Sunnyside Chicken — hatch/egg speed pet (reskinned existing concept).
  • Gorilla Chef (5% chance in shop) — cooks on cauldrons in your garden and grants 5% chance to duplicate food when cooking (works only if you have cauldrons placed). Excellent for mass event cooking.
  • Bacon Pig (chest pet) — every ~118s emits an aura that 2.1× increases variant chance for nearby fruits (boosts variant/rainbow/gold chance). Situational but useful for mutation farming.
  • Hotdog(?) pet — every 4 minutes drops a mustard/ketchup puddle: pets on mustard get 20% faster cooldown, pets on ketchup get 20% more XP. Good for cook/XP builds.
  • Lobster Tidor — every 15 minutes 20% chance to make a nearby fruit Molten (×25 multiplier), and every 30 minutes 10% chance to make one Meteoric (×125). Extremely powerful if you get these procs.

Note: Some pets and effects are testing-phase and percentages may change.

New plants and chest drops

New plants added in this update:

  • Butternut Squash — regrows (mid sell value in tests).
  • Spring Onion — one-time harvest (common, lower sell value).
  • Prickle Fruit — bulky plant, tested sell ~33k (varies).
  • Bitter Melon — regrowing; has decent sell value in tests.
  • Rhubarb — common, regrows; mid sell value.
  • Badlands Pepper — large plant, regrows, sold ~40–50k in tests.
  • King Cabbage — very rare drop (~1% in chests during testing), big payoff if you find one.

Culinary Chest (common chest from rat rewards):

  • ~40% chance to get (testing) when picking the chest reward. Contains seeds and pets, including rare seeds and the chest-only pets listed above.

Testing price examples: the guide’s tester recorded plant sell prices (these are early-server numbers and may change on full release). Treat them as rough estimates only.

New mutations & pet shard drops

  • New mutation: Aromatic — can be applied to fruits; aromatic effect can be granted by Aromatic Pet Shards. When applied to a pet, every 25 minutes a nearby fruit is infused with the aromatic mutation.
  • Aromatic Pet Shards drop from rat rewards and chests (testing showed ~20% chance). These shards cannot be created in the mutation machine (so get them from event rewards).

Cosmetics, crates, and other additions

  • New kitchen cosmetics: kitchen cart, kitchen flooring, smoothie fountain, cooking cauldrons, kitchen crate, crispy statue cosmetic, etc.
  • Kitchen crate and other cosmetics are available from the shop; no new seed was added to the crafting shop in this test cycle.

Best strategies (quick)

  • Activate Kitchen Storm whenever possible and spam cooks during it for faster cooking + higher chance of good mutations.
  • Use multiple gorilla chefs + cauldrons to boost duplication chance — game-changer for grinding mutated foods.
  • Place Bacon Pigs or Lobster Tidors if you want mutation boosts / rare mutation procs (if you’re willing to chase RNG).
  • Record successful recipes in your Recipe Book and replicate them during Kitchen Storm for consistent results.
  • Manage pet slots to switch loadouts quickly depending on whether you want duplication, mutation boost, or XP boosts.

The Kitchen Storm update turns cooking into a full mini-game loop: grow mutated plants, cook, feed the rat, trigger Kitchen Storm, and repeat.

If you want fast progression in event rewards and rare mutations, focus on mass-cooking during Kitchen Storm, stack gorilla chefs and cauldrons, and use pets that boost mutation/duplication.

Expect RNG — this update increases both reward potential and gambling-style pulls. If you want, I can make a short step-by-step checklist (farm → cook → feed → trigger Kitchen Storm → loop) or a ranked list of pets and which setups to use. Which one do you want next?
