you’ll meet a lot of new dangers in the Outdoor subfloor, and the Groundskeeper is one of the most consistent threats. It doesn’t roam randomly like some monsters — it has clear spawn points and clear triggers. Learn its patterns and you’ll avoid the instant-death chases that ruin runs. Check out our All New Entities Guide and Doors How to Use the Lotus!

What the Groundskeeper is and how it works

  • Spawn points: Groundskeeper only spawns from specific wooden sheds scattered around the area. Check for small shed buildings — those are where it appears.
  • Trigger: stepping on grass (the triangular, spiky grass patches) will immediately alert it. If it sees you on grass, it will target and chase to kill.
  • Despawn behavior: after a while the Groundskeeper will return to its shed and despawn. You can wait it out if you’re safe.
  • Safe to be near — if you stay off grass: the Groundskeeper is not hostile if it doesn’t detect you walking on grass. Staying on paths and pavement keeps you safe even when it’s present.

Basic survival rules

  1. Stay on paths and avoid grass. This is the single most important rule. The ground texture changes — don’t run over the spiky patches.
  2. If you hear or see Groundskeeper, don’t cross grass. Backtrack or wait for it to go back to its shed.
  3. Use sheds as reference points. If you see a shed, assume a Groundskeeper can spawn there. Plan routes that keep you between sheds on paved paths.

Becoming safe around Groundskeeper is mostly about patience and map awareness. Avoid grass, use sheds as spawn markers, plant checkpoints when possible, and don’t rush. Do that and the Groundskeeper stops being a surprise killer and just another obstacle you can play aroun. So hopefully this article can help you in the new Doors Update!
