The last few months have been rough for Dead by Daylight players. From the release of The Walking Dead chapter to technical issues during a live stream, it feels like one problem after another for Behavior Interactive. And just when the community was hoping for smoother updates, the latest 2v8 release brought another round of frustration.
Still, it’s not all bad news. While the update came with plenty of issues, there were also some new features worth talking about. Let’s take a closer look at what went wrong, what went right, and how players can fix the main error.
The 2v8 Launch Problems
The most recent version of 2v8 didn’t introduce any new killers, but it did bring in a few new maps. According to many players, the developers wanted to focus more on improving stability, fixing bugs, and building on the new “play while you wait” system. Unfortunately, when the update went live, servers collapsed.
For hours, nobody could play—whether it was 2v8 or even the standard 1v4 mode. Eventually, some platforms got partial functionality back, but it took nearly nine hours before things started working properly across the board.
How to Fix the Error in 2v8
Many players reported being stuck in lobbies or receiving endless error messages. While Behavior is still patching things, here are some fixes that worked:
- Turn Off Crossplay – On both PC and console, disabling crossplay made matchmaking work. This was the most reliable fix during the launch.
- Restart the Game and Platform – Fully closing Dead by Daylight and restarting your system often helps refresh matchmaking.
- Check Server Status – Sometimes the problem is server-side. Keep an eye on Behavior’s official Twitter or forums for updates.
- Wait for Crossplay Fixes – Once Behavior patched the servers, crossplay began working again after several hours. If issues return, toggling it on and off may help.
- Claim Compensation – If you lost progress due to errors, Behavior gave out 5 million bloodpoints as compensation. Make sure you log in to collect them.
Beyond server issues, some unusual bugs showed up. Players reported lobbies filling with nine survivors instead of eight, matches timing out with missing killers, and even floating Nemesis zombies mid-game. While some of these glitches were amusing, they highlighted how unstable the mode still is.
Play While You Wait Feature is Awesome!
One positive addition is the “play while you wait” feature. In 2v8, waiting times for killers were painful, sometimes lasting half an hour. Now, players can jump into survivor matches while they queue. Once finished, they return to their killer match almost instantly.
The feature even works with friends, making long queues far more tolerable. For many, this was the highlight of the update.
Behavior has promised to focus more on stability and quality of life fixes moving forward. With fewer new chapters planned this year, fans hope the studio can deliver a more polished experience.
This summer has been full of setbacks for Dead by Daylight, but features like “play while you wait” show potential if the bugs get ironed out. Whether the next chapter avoids the same messy launch remains to be seen.
