In Type Soul, True Modes are meant to feel powerful and rewarding, but not all of them deliver on that promise. Some modes fall short either because of low damage, clunky mechanics, or simply being outclassed by stronger options.

If you’re deciding which True Mode to unlock, here’s a breakdown of the five worst True Modes in Type Soul you might want to avoid. Also check out our Type Soul Codes for more redeemable rewards!

5. True Acid

True Acid doesn’t bring much to the table. Its skills are underwhelming, and the overall damage output feels weak compared to other True Modes. Most players skip it because it offers little reward for the effort required to unlock it.

4. True Shark

At first glance, Shark seems decent because of its water domain and increased speed, but in practice it’s easy to counter. The domain doesn’t make a big enough difference in fights since most enemies can still dodge and fight back effectively. Out of the Tricera True Modes, Shark is easily the weakest.

3. Gluttony

Gluttony looks intimidating with its map-wide traps, but the reality is those traps are huge and very easy to avoid. While its vault still does good damage and can be useful for aggressive plays, it falls behind compared to other True Modes that offer better utility, crowd control, or raw damage.

2. Royal

Royal is a controversial pick here. It’s not completely useless, but it doesn’t add anything exciting. The only changes are cosmetic and slightly faster cooldowns, which make it feel more like a reskin of the base Royal vault than a true upgrade. For the grind it takes to get, many players find it disappointing.

1. Zangetsu

As the main character’s mode, you’d expect Zangetsu to be powerful. Sadly, it’s one of the most underwhelming. It traps you in a small barrier and only makes your skills more spammy with a color change from red and black to purple.

While the damage is decent, other True Modes completely outclass it with better hacks, defense boosts, or unique abilities. Zangetsu doesn’t stand out in any way, making it the worst True Mode in the game right now.

These True Modes aren’t completely unplayable, but compared to the stronger options in Type Soul, they just don’t hold up. If you’re trying to invest your time and effort wisely, it’s better to avoid these and aim for modes that provide more reliable power and utility.
