Just started Anime Crusaders and don’t know which units to focus on? No problem. I played a bunch and tested early content — these five units give the best payoff for new players. They’re easy to use, work in most team comps, and make clearing story and early portals much smoother.

Anime Crusaders is a tower-defense/auto-battle style game where you place units with different ranges, placements, and special effects. Units level up, evolve, and gain new AOE or hybrid traits at higher upgrades.

Quality-of-life features like auto upgrades and one-click upgrades speed up progression, but picking a few solid starter units will get you through early and mid game faster.

1. Ukia (must-have)

  • Role: Legendary, ground, ice/magic
  • Why: Huge range and becomes full AOE at upgrade 3. Applies slow consistently and turns hybrid at higher ranks.
  • Use: Core crowd control for story and portals (Monarch Gates). Freeze + AOE = great for beginner teams.
  • Tip: Ukia has a high SPA (skill cooldown), but her support is worth it. Place her where she hits enemy chokepoints.

2. Koichy

  • Role: Legendary support
  • Why: Strong slow utility — +15% slow at U2, +30% more at U5 (total extra slow up to ~45% at max). Becomes hybrid at top upgrades.
  • Use: Pair with high-DPS units to let them deal free damage. Works in almost any composition.
  • Tip: If you want to stall waves or make bosses easy, Koichy is a top pick.

3. Ureo

  • Role: Magic DPS / healer-style DPS (legendary)
  • Why: High DPS for a legendary and huge range. Frequently used in endgame portals and story.
  • Use: Main DPS for mixed teams. Great for clearing waves when combined with Koichy or Ukia.
  • Tip: Ureo is a 4-placement unit — good damage without taking too many placement slots.

4. GreyBeard

  • Role: Support / debuffer (legendary)
  • Why: Applies Curse, which makes enemies take 20% more damage from magic units. Full AOE on hits.
  • Use: Pair with Ureo, Ukia, Golden Frieza, or any magic-focused damage dealers to multiply damage output.
  • Tip: If the daily challenge or event favors magic teams, GreyBeard becomes essential.

5. Yuji (raw DPS)

  • Role: Legendary ground DPS
  • Why: Solid single-target damage among legendary ground units. Good choice if you lack other damage cores.
  • Use: Raw DPS slot for early to mid-game progression; pairs well with Koichy and GreyBeard.
  • Tip: Use Yuji as your fallback DPS when maps require strong single-target burst.

If you’re new, lock in Ukia and Koichy first — they give control and utility that make everything else easier. Add a reliable DPS (Ureo or Yuji) and a magic buffer like GreyBeard to round out your early team. Play a few stages, practice placements, and you’ll clear story and portals much faster. Want a short starter-team build I use for portal farming? I can drop one next.
