Build a Zoo is a Roblox tycoon game where you hatch animals, expand your land, and grow your zoo into a thriving attraction. You’ll earn gold by collecting pets and fish, then reinvest that gold into upgrades for even bigger and better animals.
If the short tutorial left you with questions, this guide covers everything you need to know to get started, from unlocking space to getting rare eggs and mutations. Also check out our Build a Zoo Codes for those interested!
How to Unlock More Space in Build a Zoo
When you first start, you’ll notice a conveyor belt delivering eggs. Buy one for $100, place it on your plot, and it will hatch into your first animal, which begins earning gold.
As your zoo fills up, you’ll need more land. To expand, equip the hammer tool (press 1 or click it from the bottom tray), hover over a tile, and press E to unlock it.
- Front tiles range from $500 to $75,000.
- The final row costs $10,000,000 per tile.
Currently, there’s no expansion beyond these tiles, meaning eventually you’ll have to sell older animals to make room for new ones. Unlocking tiles is also necessary to access larger animals, so it’s a must if you want to progress.
How to Get Big Animals in Build a Zoo
Besides regular animals, there are three Big Animal Platforms in your zoo: two for pets and one for fish.
- One pet platform costs 30,000 Gold.
- The second requires 299 Robux.
- The big fish platform costs 50,000 Gold but requires the Fishing Point unlocked first.
Once you have a platform, you’ll also unlock the Food Shop. Feed your big animals using food items purchased with Gold. Feeding them makes them grow to maximum size and unlocks new large animals to display.
How to Unlock Fishing Point in Build a Zoo
Added in Update 21, the Fishing Point gives you access to fish eggs. You can unlock it for 5,000 Gold past the conveyor belt. Unlocking it provides a basic fishing rod. Steps to start fishing:
- Talk to the capybara NPC near the hut to buy bait.
- Equip your rod and cast into the river.
- When an egg is hooked, fill the progress bar by clicking until it reaches 100%.
- Place the egg in a pond and wait for it to hatch.
Fishing ponds, just like zoo tiles, must be purchased with Gold if you want to hold multiple fish. They’re generally more expensive, so it’s better to wait until you have a stable zoo income before expanding fishing.
How to Get Better Eggs in Build a Zoo
There are two egg types: pet eggs (from the conveyor) and fish eggs (from fishing).
- To get stronger pet eggs, upgrade the conveyor belt using the yellow button in the left corner of your zoo. Higher upgrades spawn higher-rarity eggs (from Common up to Celestial).
- For better fish eggs, upgrade your rod and bait. The Uncommon Rod is the best free-to-play option, while the Gold Rod requires Robux. Fish Bait is the most effective bait, available from the capybara vendor.
How to Get Mutations in Build a Zoo
Mutated pets and fish have unique appearances and generate up to 12x more income than normal variants. They can come from hatching eggs, but to mutate your big pets or fish, you’ll need to feed them specific foods from the Food Shop. Each feeding brings you closer to unlocking rare, mutated versions of your animals.
Tips & Beginner Strategies
- Expand early: Without new tiles, you won’t unlock larger animals.
- Save for upgrades: Conveyor upgrades are crucial for high-rarity pets.
- Balance zoo & fishing: Focus on your zoo first, then branch into fishing.
- Feed big animals often: It’s the key to unlocking mutations and showcasing rarer species.
Build a Zoo might look simple, but progress depends on smart expansion and knowing when to invest in upgrades, food, or fishing. Unlock tiles early, keep your conveyor belt improving, and feed your big animals to reach the rarest and most profitable pets. With this guide, you’ll be well on your way to building the ultimate Roblox zoo.
