Megabonk Beginner’s Guide, All You Need to Know!

Starting out in Megabonk can feel rough. You’re faced with tough challenges, limited weapon slots, and slow progress when farming Silver. If you’re just getting into the game, this guide will help you understand the basics, unlock important features, and handle the harder challenges that pop up early on.

How to Unlock Extra Weapon & Tome Slots

At the beginning, you’re stuck with very few slots, which makes scaling harder. Thankfully, you can unlock more as you progress:

  • 1st Extra Weapon Slot – Complete 25 quests
  • 2nd Extra Weapon Slot – Complete 35 quests
  • Extra Tome Slots – Complete 60 quests

These extra slots make a huge difference in longer runs. With more weapons, global buffs from tomes (like attack speed and crit chance) affect your entire setup, leading to much stronger builds. On short maps though, more slots aren’t always worth it since you don’t have time to upgrade everything.

How to Farm Silver Quickly

Silver is the main resource for upgrades, but it’s slow to earn in the early game. Here’s how to speed it up:

  • Push higher stages – Tier 3 runs can easily give you 50+ Silver per run.
  • Complete quests and challenges – Many of these reward Silver and unlock key features.
  • Skip Silver Gain upgrades – They don’t give a big enough boost to be worth it.

Instead, focus on unlocking weapons, tomes, and especially the Toggler first, since it helps more than raw income boosts.

Unlocking and Using the Toggler

The Toggler is one of the best tools for making your runs smoother. It lets you turn off weak or unwanted weapons, tomes, and items so they don’t show up in your level-up pool.

How to unlock it:

  • Buy 40 unlocks (weapons, tomes, or items)
  • Spend 50 Silver in the shop

Once unlocked, you can disable things like Knockback Tome or Silver Gain permanently, keeping your builds clean. Default gear (like Fox’s fire staff) can’t be toggled off, but everything else you’ve unlocked with Silver can be.

Beating the AFK Challenge

This challenge forces you to survive without moving or jumping. That means you need tanky builds and passive damage.

  • Best character: Megachad (biggest health pool)
  • Core weapons: Aegis (block bosses), Aura, and Sword or Axe for AoE damage
  • Tomes to grab: Attraction/XP Pickup Range (so you can level up without moving), Attack Speed, Projectiles, and Shield

Disable bad items with the Toggler, focus on defense, and position yourself smartly. Luck plays a big role here, so expect a few retries.

Beating the Pacifist Challenge

In this challenge, you can’t pick up weapons — your damage has to come from thorns and defensive scaling.

  • Core build: Thorns Tome + Electric Plug
  • Key stats: Armor, HP Regen, and XP Tome for fast scaling
  • Best character: Sir Oofie (shield + tankiness)
  • Helpful items: Spikey Shield, Chonkplate, Slurp Gloves, or a Bob summon

Since this run depends heavily on RNG, it might take multiple tries before you land the right setup.

All Interactables in Megabonk

Here’s a quick rundown of what you’ll find around the map:

  • Pots: Drop Silver or XP
  • Challenge Shrine: Spawns tough enemies for loot
  • Shrine of Succ: Collects all XP orbs instantly
  • Boss Curse Shrine: Adds extra bosses per stage
  • Charge Shrine: Gives one of three stat upgrades
  • Golden Charge Shrine: Gives legendary upgrades
  • Greed Shrine: Extra Silver but harder enemies
  • Moai Shrine: Free items to choose from
  • Microwave: Duplicate items (up to 3 times)
  • Gold Chest: Free item with no drawback
  • Shady Guy: Sells items (rarity shown by hat color)
  • Teleporter: Ends stage and spawns boss
  • Boombox: Unlocks music shop item if all are activated
  • Gold Key & Cage: Unlocks the Monkey character
  • Suspicious Bush: Hidden boss that unlocks Sniper
  • Bandit Statue: Hidden boss that unlocks Bandit

Megabonk can be punishing when you’re new, but once you know how to unlock extra slots, earn Silver efficiently, and use tools like the Toggler, the game opens up. Challenges like AFK and Pacifist test your creativity, while interactables give you ways to power up mid-run. Stay patient, focus on progression, and you’ll turn those early struggles into unstoppable late-game builds.
