Plants vs Zombies PvZ 3 Leaks Shows Fusion Mechanics and Features!
Plants vs Zombies 3 has had a long and complicated journey since its first announcement back in 2019. From multiple soft launches to being pulled from app stores, the game has been reworked several times.
Now, in 2025, new leaks have surfaced that finally give us a look at what PopCap and EA are planning for the next version of PvZ 3. And this time, the leaks reveal some exciting features, returning favorites, and brand-new mechanics that could change the game entirely.
The Complicated History of PvZ 3

The first version of PvZ 3 appeared in 2019 as a pre-alpha release, but it was criticized for its portrait layout and “mobile cash grab” feel. After shutting down in 2020, a 2022 version returned with better visuals but still leaned heavily on microtransactions.
By 2024, “PvZ 3: Welcome to Zomburbia” was launched with battle passes, but that too was later removed. In early 2025, EA even asked players to vote on new art styles for the game. Now, thanks to leaks, we have a clearer picture of the direction PvZ 3 might be taking.
Plant Fusion Mechanic

The biggest addition is the fusion system, similar to the popular fan game PvZ Fusion. Players can combine two plants to create entirely new ones. Some confirmed examples include:
- Cold Slaw + Jumbrella Leaf = Snow Bell
- Twin Sunflowers = Sun Tower (likely produces massive sun amounts)
- Two Repeaters = Gatling Pea (a returning favorite)
This mechanic opens up tons of creative strategies and brings more variety than simply planting the same unit over and over.
Returning Plants
Leaks also show that many classic plants from PvZ 2 and even PvZ Heroes will return. Confirmed so far are:
- Cattail
- Lightning Reed
- Umbrella Leaf
- Iceberg Lettuce
- Explode-o-nut
- Primal Sunflower
- Celery Stalker
- Electric Peashooter
- Green Shadow and Solar Flare (from PvZ Heroes)
Fans will be happy to see some of their favorite plants making a comeback, especially with new designs.
New Plants & Possible Features
The files also hint at brand-new plants like Solar Pea, Numb Bean Cabbage, and Punk Shocker, each bringing unique mechanics. Lawn gnomes also appear to be making a return, and there’s speculation about new map content like a Great Wall theme.
While PvZ 3 has had a rough history, these new leaks show that EA and PopCap are at least experimenting with exciting ideas. The plant fusion system could be a game-changer, and the return of classic plants gives fans something to look forward to. It’s still unclear when the next version will release, but if these leaks are true, PvZ 3 might finally bring back some of the magic the series is known for.
