Why So Many Roblox Games Were Deleted This Week?

Recently, the Roblox community was shocked when a massive number of games suddenly became unplayable. Players logging in found that some of their favorite experiences, even classics that shaped the platform, were no longer available. So, what actually happened?

At the end of September, Roblox rolled out a new rule tied to game safety and age ratings. Every developer was required to complete an Age Rating Questionnaire for their games. This questionnaire helps Roblox decide the maturity level of each game, such as whether it should be labeled 5+ minimal or 9+ moderate, depending on whether it includes things like violence, scary elements, or blood.

The catch was the deadline. Developers had until September 30th to submit their questionnaire. If they didn’t, their game would be locked and marked as unavailable. For active developers, this was just an extra step to keep their projects live. But for older games, the story was different. Many classic Roblox titles were created by developers who no longer visit the platform, and some creators sadly are no longer alive. Since these games couldn’t be updated, they were instantly shut down.

What made the situation worse was that not just small games were affected. Even big names like Crossroads, a game created by Roblox itself, and Sword Fights on the Heights 4, a famous community-made game, were caught in the purge. Overnight, players lost access to experiences they grew up with, leading to anger and disappointment across the community. This update may have been designed to improve safety, but it also erased a piece of Roblox history in the process.
