The fight against Chaosdramon at the start of Digimon Story Time Stranger can seem impossible if you go in unprepared. This guide will help you beat him step-by-step — even with your starter Digimon — by showing the best setup, farming route, and strategy to survive and win the battle.
7 Steps to Beat Chaosdramon Digimon Story Time Stranger
Step 1: Picking Your Starter Digimon
At the start, you can choose from three starter Digimon. It doesn’t matter which one you pick for this strategy since you won’t rely heavily on your starter in the Chaosdramon fight. For demonstration purposes, Gomamon works perfectly fine.
Step 2: Getting the Icicle Edge Data Disc
After escaping the Blue MetalGreymon, head to the gate and interact with it to move forward. On the right side, you’ll find a treasure chest containing the Icicle Edge Data Disc — this item is essential for your strategy. It’ll serve as your main source of damage later in the Chaosdramon fight.
Step 3: Farming Monodramon (Very Important)
Once you reach the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, your goal is to farm Monodramon. You need to scan Monodramon until you reach 200%.
- You gain around 50% per fight, meaning four battles will give you a full scan.
- Go up the elevator, then back down to reset enemy spawns and keep farming.
When you finally reach 200%, convert Monodramon to make it a playable Digimon.
Step 4: Team Setup & Skill Prep
Once you have your Monodramon, equip it with the Icicle Edge skill you found earlier. This will be your key to defeating Chaosdramon.
Your ideal early team should be:
- Your Starter Digimon (Gomamon, Patamon, or Agumon)
- Monodramon (with Icicle Edge equipped)
- A third Digimon like Dracomon for support or backup damage
You can lock these Digimon in your party menu to avoid accidentally fusing them later.
Step 5: Grinding for Power (Load Enhancement)
Now comes the grind. You’ll need around 150 Digimon at 200% scan rate in your box. This is how you’ll power up your Monodramon.
Use the Load Enhancement system to fuse all your extra Digimon into Monodramon. This boosts its level, HP, and stats significantly.
- Aim for Level 28+
- Around 9,000 HP or higher
- At least 1,000+ Attack
This process takes about 1–1.5 hours on standard difficulty.
Step 6: The Battle Strategy Against Chaosdramon
When ready, approach Chaosdramon to start the fight.
Battle Setup:
- Make sure Monodramon has Icicle Edge and Attack Charge.
- Stock up on HP Capsules for healing.
Battle Flow:
Turn 1: Use Attack Charge on Monodramon to boost damage.
Turn 2+: Use HP Capsules each turn before attacking with Icicle Edge.
- Chaosdramon’s Hyper Infinity Cannon will kill your other two Digimon — that’s fine.
- Focus on keeping Monodramon alive and spamming Icicle Edge.
Mid Battle: Once Chaosdramon’s HP drops to around 50%, you can focus purely on attacking.
- Each Icicle Edge deals around 700–800 damage, and he has roughly 6,900 HP.
With enough healing and a fully powered Monodramon, you’ll outlast him and win the fight.
Step 7: Rewards & Notes
After defeating Chaosdramon, you’ll receive 2,300 Yen and 1,300 XP. Keep in mind:
- Chaosdramon does not respawn after being defeated.
- You can’t farm him repeatedly for XP.
- This fight is considered the first major boss in the demo.
Beating Chaosdramon early in Digimon Story Time Stranger is all about preparation, not luck. Focus on farming Monodramon, collecting 200% scans, and using the Icicle Edge strategy. Once you have the right setup, even this early super boss becomes manageable. If you’re looking for a challenge, try doing it without healing — but for most players, mastering Icicle Edge + HP Capsule rotation is the safest and most effective method to win.
