How to Start the Shinigami Quest
To begin your journey to obtain and master Shinigami, you’ll need to interact with a specific NPC added in the latest update.
- Go to West Park
Start by heading to the West Park area of the map. This is where several new event NPCs are located during the Halloween season. - Find the “Distinguished Wolf” NPC
Look for an NPC named Distinguished Wolf. He’s the one who gives players access to the Shinigami Quest. - Initiate the Quest
Talk to Distinguished Wolf to begin the Shinigami questline. Follow the quest steps provided — these typically involve defeating enemies, collecting items, or completing specific event challenges. Once completed, you’ll unlock Shinigami as a usable ability.
How to Increase Shinigami Mastery
After unlocking Shinigami, the next step is to increase its mastery rank. The new mastery system allows you to strengthen your Shinigami’s abilities and gain new effects with each level.
- Maximum Mastery Rank: 10
- How to Level Up: Use a Pumpkin item on Shinigami.
- Soul Cap Bonus: Each mastery rank increases your soul capacity by 15, allowing for better energy management.
Below are the detailed bonuses you’ll receive at key mastery ranks:
- Rank 1 Remedy heals nearby party members and grants a shield to the user.
- Rank 3 Phantom Legion now summons 4 minions instead of the base amount.
- Rank 5 Banishment gains a new finisher variant, increasing damage potential.
- Rank 8 Phantom Legion now spawns 5 minions, adding more DPS support.
- Rank 10 Death’s Grasp now restrains enemies in place, offering better crowd control.
Each upgrade enhances your combat potential and adds more depth to Shinigami’s playstyle, making it one of the most versatile powers during this event. While progressing through the event, you can also obtain the new Subpower — Serpent’s Laceration, inspired by the BlazBlue series.
- Obtain it from the Denizen of Hell with a 75% drop rate.
- It has 3 Stages, offering increased damage and even hyperarmor at max level.
Combining this subpower with Shinigami’s high mastery bonuses can give you a major advantage in both PvE and PvP battles.
The return of Shinigami in A Universal Time adds an exciting layer of depth for players who enjoy mastering complex abilities. Start your quest by talking to Distinguished Wolf, use Pumpkins to rank up your Shinigami, and unlock each of its mastery perks to unleash its full potential. Whether you’re grinding the Cathedral for candy or fighting event bosses, mastering Shinigami will make your journey through the Halloween event more rewarding — and far more powerful.
