Reaching max rank in New Moon requires patience, grinding, and a clear understanding of how both Slayer and Demon progressions work. This guide will walk you through every step to help you become a top-ranked player, whether you choose the path of a disciplined Slayer or the chaotic life of a Demon. Slayer Progression Guide

Slayers have the most detailed and structured progression system in New Moon. Here’s how to climb the ranks efficiently:

1. Starting as a Slayer

When you first join, you’ll begin as a Mizunoto rank. The key to early progress is to spam missions—yes, the grind is real. Missions are your main source of XP and rank advancement. Even though the game currently offers only one mission, it’s still the only way to level up.

2. Unlocking Breathing Styles

To unlock your Breathing Style, press P to open your player menu, then look for the breathing trainers on your map—like Water, Flame, or Wind. Each trainer gives you access to a unique combat style. Once you’ve chosen, your trainer will guide you toward reaching Kanoto rank, which is two levels above your starting rank.

3. Final Selection & Rank Advancement

After reaching Kanoto, you’ll unlock Final Selection, which is required to become an official Slayer. The quest markers can be buggy, so you may need to manually travel from Slayer Corps HQ and head toward the forest to find the Final Selection door. The challenge itself is simple—survive until daytime. The mode is currently laggy but still easy to complete solo. Once you finish, you’ll advance to Konway rank.

4. Getting the Nichirin Blade

Once you’re ranked up, the next goal is to obtain your Nichirin Blade.

  • Find a pickaxe on the map.
  • Mine 10 Scarlet Crimson Ore and 5 Scarlet Crimson Sand.
  • These materials can be found near the Slayer HQ and Water Trainer area.
After collecting them, visit the Wandering Swordsmith to craft your Nichirin Blade. Note that this system can be buggy at times, so crafting may not always register properly.

5. Unlocking More Moves

Each time you rank up, you unlock more breathing moves. For example, if you start at Mizunoto, expect new moves at every “To” rank (Mizunoto, Kanoto, etc.). Keep grinding missions to level up and master your breathing style fully.

Demon Progression Guide

Compared to Slayers, Demon progression in New Moon is simpler—but also less developed for now.

1. Starting as a Demon

You spawn as a basic Demon with no Blood Demon Art (BDA). Your first step is to grind missions—just like Slayers. The game will prompt you to complete various combat missions to gain EXP and rank up.

2. Ranking Up

Keep doing missions and PvP fights to reach Intermediate Demon rank. Currently, there’s no working BDA system, meaning you can’t unlock Blood Demon Arts yet. Players need to increase their ELO (performance rating) through combat, as it seems tied to BDA unlocks in future updates.

3. Gameplay Loop

Right now, being a Demon mainly revolves around PvP and mission grinding. You can’t eat humans or interact with the world in the same way Slayers can. However, updates are expected to expand Demon gameplay soon.

The New Moon playtest still feels early in development, but its ranking system shows promise. Slayers have more depth with breathing styles, ranks, and crafting, while Demons are still limited in features. If you’re chasing fast progression, focus on Slayer missions and breathing mastery for now.

Once updates roll out with Blood Demon Arts and additional quests, both factions will have more to offer. Until then, stay consistent with missions, refine your combat timing, and keep an eye out for future patches that expand the endgame experience.
