What Happened to Demon Slayer New Moon? Here’s Why the Game Was Closed Early

Demon Slayer: New Moon was one of the most anticipated Roblox games of the year, but its public playtest ended far sooner than expected. The game launched with strong hype, peaking at over 50,000 concurrent players within hours of release. Unfortunately, the excitement quickly turned to frustration as major bugs, progression issues, and gameplay problems surfaced — leading the developers to shut the game down only a day after opening.

Why Demon Slayer: New Moon Was Closed

According to the official announcement from the developers, New Moon’s playtest was meant to last for about a week or more. However, after just one day, the team decided to take the servers offline. The developers admitted that the playtest didn’t meet their expectations or the quality standard they had promised players.

They explained that the main reason for the sudden closure was the large number of unexpected bugs and last-minute design choices. The progression system, which many players criticized, was actually reverted to an older build just before release — a decision the team later acknowledged as a major mistake. This, combined with gameplay imbalance and server instability, made the experience frustrating for most players.

The Community’s Reaction

Despite the issues, the game’s launch generated a massive following. The New Moon Discord server skyrocketed to nearly 100,000 members, showing just how much interest there was in the project. However, early feedback wasn’t kind. Many players complained that combat felt clunky and delayed, with core mechanics like blocking and dashing not functioning smoothly.

Even though some PvP players praised the combat system, the majority felt that it lacked polish. Others noted that without access to Breathing Styles or Demon Arts, the fights felt empty and repetitive.

Developer Response and What’s Next

The developer, XY, issued a public apology and confirmed that the team would return to development to rebuild several core systems. They emphasized that New Moon had only been in development for about four months, explaining why it felt incomplete. The team promised that in the next playtest, features such as Final Selection, Demon equivalents, and fully tested progression systems will be properly implemented.

However, given the current state of the project, it’s unlikely that the full version of New Moon will launch anytime this year. With other Demon Slayer-inspired Roblox games like Project Slayers 2 and Hinami also in development, New Moon will face strong competition when it eventually returns.

While Demon Slayer: New Moon’s playtest ended abruptly, it wasn’t all negative. Players praised its visuals, layered clothing, and detailed environments. The game clearly has potential — it just needs more time to reach the level of polish fans expect.

For now, the project is on hold, but the developers have stated their commitment to improving it before reopening. If they can fix the progression issues and refine combat mechanics, New Moon could still make a strong comeback in the Roblox anime community. Stay tuned for updates when the developers announce the next playtest.
