10 Things You Need To Do Before the Smithing Update in Grow a Garden
The long-awaited Smithing Update is almost here in Grow a Garden, and preparing early will save you time, effort, and stress when the event goes live. This guide breaks down ten important things you should do right now to get ready.
Each point comes from things players often overlook, plus features already confirmed for the new update. If you want a smooth start on day one, follow everything here. Also check out our Grow a Garden Codes and Grow a Garden Animals Tier List.
1. Prepare Crafting Pets
Since this update focuses heavily on crafting, make sure you have pets that boost crafting performance.
- Hamster: Speeds up crafting time.
- Orang Utan: Reduces the number of materials used.
The Orang Utan is still obtainable through the Rare Summer Egg, so get as many as you can. Having a full team of eight gives you a big advantage once crafting launches.
2. Get Ready for the Lion Pet

The Lion pet is extremely limited. Players have only about a day to unlock it, and it’s expected to become valuable for trading.
- Keep farming points until you unlock it.
- Use an auto-clicker for quick progress.
- The Lion may not be the strongest pet, but its rarity makes it worth getting.
3. Grab the Trinity Fruit Before It’s Gone
The Safari event is ending, which means the Trinity Fruit will be removed soon. If you want to complete your seed collection, get it now before it disappears permanently.
4. Set Up Stock Notifications for Rare Seeds
Seeds like Zebrazinkle barely appear in the shop. To grab one before it sells out:
- Use a stock notifier from a trusted Discord server.
- Enable notifications for Trinity Fruit and Zebrazinkle.
This saves you from AFKing all night.
5. Prepare ALT Accounts (Responsibly)

Alt accounts help you:
- Buy multiple rare seeds before they go out of stock.
- Get multiple Lion pets during its short availability.
- Collect extra event rewards for trading later.
Make sure your alt accounts:
- Are verified
- Are actually used
- Are not created in bulk to avoid Roblox bans
Used correctly, alt accounts are a huge boost.
6. Farm Safari Plants for Jumbo Mutation
The Jumbo Shard mutation gives a major boost to plant size and pet XP. To use it efficiently, you need 300 Safari-type plants. The easiest way to farm these quickly is to plant Orange Delight repeatedly. Four to five hours of farming is usually enough.
7. Collect Pet Mutation Shards
Safari Joe offers rare mutation shards like:
- Giraffe Shard
- Orc Pecker Shard
These give pets passive boosts and improve ability speed. They’re hard to get, but even a few make a big difference.
8. Keep Every Plant Type in Your Garden

Do not clear your plots. Some events require specific plant types, and Grow a Garden often reuses these mechanics. Keeping:
- Cactus
- Cacao
- Strawberry
- Coconut
and others saved on a separate plot prevents you from replanting later.
9. Learn or Set Up a Macro for AFK Tasks
A macro tool like TinyTask helps automate repetitive tasks such as:
- Checking shop stock
- Spamming buy buttons
- Replanting
- Opening seeds
Macros make long events easier, especially when items restock at random.
10. Check Smithing Update Time + Admin Abuse Time
Update timing has recently shifted, and many players missed the early Admin Abuse hour. To avoid this:
- Look at the event countdown on the Grow a Garden game page.
- Subtract 1 hour—that’s when Admin Abuse begins.
- Join early so you don’t miss free boosts and rewards.
You can also rely on Discord servers that ping when Admin Abuse starts.
With the Smithing Update adding new crafting features, pets, seeds, and quality-of-life improvements, preparing ahead of time is the smartest move. These ten steps will help you get rare items earlier, earn more event currency, and stay ahead of other players on day one. If you need a follow-up guide once the update drops, I can write a full walkthrough for the smithing system, new seeds, or crafting tables in Grow a Garden.
